Disappointing Experience with Rover: Unreliable Sitters and Inadequate Customer Support
Rover, in theory, appears to be a promising service, yet it seems primarily reliant on the availability and reliability of its dog sitters. This model, however, does not seem to prioritize the needs of the dog owner. According to their terms and conditions, if a dog owner cancels a booking less than a week in advance, they must pay a cancellation fee equivalent to 50% of the booking. Conversely, if a dog sitter cancels, there is no compensation for the owner. We faced such an issue today when our dog sitter canceled our booking without any explanation and was unreachable when we tried to contact them. Additionally, customer support was severely lacking, providing no assistance during this situation, making it difficult for me to recommend Rover. Furthermore, the platform does not allow for negative feedback on dog sitters, which prevents other potential customers from being forewarned about unreliable sitters—a significant oversight. It appears that Rover values its dog sitters over its dog owners, likely due to the scarcity of sitters, which unfortunately allows for some level of unprofessionalism without accountability. The business model seems akin to a subpar version of Uber or Deliveroo—great in concept but poorly executed in practice.
