Rover doesn’t do enough to protect its sitters. I recently had an incident where I discovered 3 surveillance cameras in a home that the customer didn’t disclose at the time of booking. I felt unsafe but had an obligation to continue service and care for the pet (as promised). I had no way out of the situation which put me in a very uncomfortable position. I am still dealing with Rover and the customer who I had to block.

Your instructions on how to submit a review are incorrect. When I try to follow the instructions, the instructions are not complete. I would love to leave a nice review for my dog sitter but unfortunately I can’t because Rover does not allow me to. I wish Rover had a phone number I could call and speak to someone so they could help me out with the problems I encountered with Rover.

People who sign up say no problem on doing the job. Then when it comes down to. They want to not fallow directions as the home owner asked on taking care of their pets, they put their kids and their shit first your pet dose not get feed on the time you ask. Or they have something to do again your pets are not taken care of as agreed to. But they want full price and a tip.

This is why customer loyalty is dead
The dog sitter who is amazing cancelled my boarding since I needed to take my dog to Animal ER for an emergency. The confirmation cancellation did not go through and after speaking with customer service I was told sorry, it already processed, but Thanks for your business! Hold up ,I've been using Rover for over 3 yrs at least 30 boardings and this is how they try to build customer loyalty? The comments from the customer service person with smiley faces after saying cant help me was the moment that I cancelled the apps and future services unfortunately after years of being a loyal customer.

Rover commission actually 31% NOT 20%, they are tacking on a hidden extra 11% fee per dog walk/ pet sit from both clients and Dog walkers/sitters to dog sitters profiles without knowledge or consent
I feel badly to leave such a poor Rover review, as the people I chat with who are on the Rover support team truly couldn't be nicer, and I've had great experiences as a dog walker! I enjoy most of what Rover does minus a few small glitches, BUT I feel that I and my clients are being scammed, and have been scammed for years without my ever knowing it!!
I finally just realized a HUGE discrepancy, where Rover is essentially stealing from both paying clients and Dog walkers/ sitters alike!!!
There AREN'T taking just 20% (which is already a lot) per dog walk, they are actually taking 31% per dog walk and are HIDING the discrepancy so neither the dog walker/ sitter nor the client realize it!!
Using my own profile as an example:
Clients searching on Rover for a dog walker seeing everyone's profiles online, says I charge $23 per dog walk
BUT
I actually only charge $20 per dog walk!
On my profile that only I see, where I set my rates, it shows that I only charge $20 per walk and Rover takes their supposed "standard" fee of 20% per walk, so it shows the calculation that I only receive $16 per walk.
So on my end I see a $4 charge per walk that Rover takes, BUT they are really taking $7 per walk without my knowledge, because they are hiding an extra hidden 11% fee that they only show on my public Rover profile, and they don't mention this discrepancy, so unless dog walkers/ sitters look explicitly, they wouldn't be aware of the extra charge.
$7 per walk taken as Rover's commission seems ridiculous to me, and I most of all really dislike that they hide and make it seem as though the added 11% ($3 in my case) per walk goes to the walker and not to them. So they are taking an extra $3 per walk on top of the $4 without my knowledge or consent
or any walker/ sitters knowledge whatsoever!!
I called Rover right away to clarify, and yes they do in fact admit to charging an extra hidden 11% that they say is "needed for their company," but I'm shocked that they would try to tack it onto dog walkers/sitters and make clients believe that it goes to walkers when that hidden extra 11% fee (in my case extra $3 PER WALK, and for other walkers/ sitters would be more or less depending on what they charge) doesn't at all!!!
After years as a dog walker with Rover, I had never noticed this before, I'm guessing almost no one does, I'm so disappointed that Rover is being purposely misleading in this!!
I told Rover support that for that added HIDDEN 11% charge onto their Rover dog walkers, and from the pockets of clients, they should at least charge that separately and not show that on dog walker's profiles, as that money has nothing to do with us, and Rover does that so clients THINK that money is going to the dog walkers, but it's really going only to the Rover company instead!!
If they need to take more from clients, they can at least put that extra fee from their end and not tack it onto the dog walkers profile, when the dog walker has no idea whatsoever about that added charge (11% )! By doing this, Rover makes it seem as though the dog walker is the one asking for and receiving the extra 11% of charges which is awful!! 31% commission per walk on dog walkers/ pet sitters seems outrageous to me and the fact that it's done in such a hidden and misleading way makes it so much worse. Completely unethical!

Very greedy company - no customer service
I had a stomach flu and had to cancel my trip. I had booked the sitter for the following week and cancelled on Sunday. When I checked my bank account, the entire amount was deducted from my bank account card BEFORE services had even begun. After I cancelled, they only refunded 50% of the whole weeks charges and kept 102.00. The cancellation fee is hidden, of course, and you have get directions on how to find it. The sitter was fine. but I will be looking elsewhere - Rover doesn't bother with customer service - there is only a woman in the Phillipines reading a script and an online bot.

Dodgy Sitter Left On Platform
We asked an aquaintence who uses Rover for a sitter recommendation for our 15 year-old senior dog (short-legged Jack Russell) & 15 year-old senior cat. They pointed us to a 5* top rated sitter they had used on Rover a number of times.
We met the sitter months in advance of the holiday and booked her in.
She was great with communication and sharing photos. Day before we came home she detailed that there had been an incident with another dog during a walk and there was a small mark on our dog but she was acting normally and didn't need to go to the vet.
When we got home the next day we could see that our dog wasn't quite right and we made a vet appointment for the next day.
We weren't upset with the sitter. A skuffle with another dog could happen to anyone. I wrote a positive review for her.
Took our dog to the vet and let Rover know about it (discovered the sitter should have told them about the incident herself), and we asked the sitter to share back more details. She repeated vague phrases which started to make me uncomfortable.
I decided to look at our doorbell video to see how our dog was the day of the attack.
We were shocked to see at 11:11 only 10 minutes after she said our dog was attacked, she has opened the front door and is standing well into the doorway.
Our dog is 7, 8 feet away on the pavement and refuses to follow the sitter into the house. The sitter looks frustrated and annoyed, tugs on the lead, pulling our dog inside.
Hardly how you expect someone to behave after a senior pet in their care was just bitten.
We went back to see when she had left the house and got a 2nd shock to see that it was 06:46.
We discovered after looking through all the footage when we were away that one day she brought a large spaniel/setter type dog into our house multiple times with one stretch for over 5 hours.
We confronted the sitter with what we had discovered, and she replied we had every right to be upset (so nice of her).
She still flat-out refused to detail the timeline of the day our dog was attacked from the time we know she was out of the house 06:46 - 11:11.
We believe the sitter takes multiple bookings. Home sitting for one family, boarding and dog walking from someone else, and she mixes the animals together and hopes for the best.
When we asked Rover if it is possible for sitters to do this- take one home sitting booking and another dog walking or boarding for the same day, customer service wrote, “Sitters on Rover can offer multiple services, but they are expected to manage their calendar and bookings responsibly.”
We shared all of the doorbell footage with Rover and they can see in the chat the sitter admitting bringing a strange dog into our home without permission, endangering our dog and cat.
Rover did process paying us back for the vet so we are not out of pocket and they removed the positive review I left for the sitter. They were quick to respond to my emails and the gentleman working our case on the Trust team even called me to check in and share next steps.
However, they have not let me write a new review for the sitter, and she is still on the platform available to take bookings.
If another animal is hurt while in this sitter's care, Rover is complicit.
Our old lady pup has recovered from the dog bite and our cat has been acting extra needy but is okay.
We are beyond thankful as it could have all been so, so much worse.

Perhaps have a real person look at your replies before you let your bots publish?
This response doesn't do you any favours.
And if the reply is a real person, you are doing an excellent job of making my argument that your service ought to be avoided full stop.

Update 2.0
I am so annoyed I didn't screenshot what Rover wrote in response previously. They have updated their comment to still be sufficiently vague but a softer touch but with no real content. Sort of how they respond to their sitters breaking their T&C's...
