The sitter nearly killed my dog. She did not allow him to toilet, did not feed him anything but treats, and over-walked him. He returned unable to walk. I took him to the vets immediately and had to pay a huge emergency vet bill. Rover have consistently blocked me in getting any kind of action, accusing me of not sending documents that their own email system blocks. The sitter is still on the platform despite her actions ready to hurt the next dog! Their customer service rep, Lotta, could not be any more hostile or inept.

I made a reservation, but the sitter had some family issues and wasn’t able to meet with me prior to the reservation. I was able to find another sitter, and let her know. But then a charge from my original reservation (August 9th) was still on my bank account, for $243.00 According to the online chat, this charge should have been returned to my account with 7 to 10 days. The sitter was never paid, and Rover never refunded me. By as of September 29th, the funds were not refunded. So beware, if you make a reservation, don’t forget to recoup the funds, because Rover isn’t too concerned about getting that done.

I used Rover for several years but they closed my account because of an accident that involved injury to my kitten from my dog. I was out of state when the pet sitter (who I had used 2-3x before) called me to inform me that he needed to take my 5.5 month old kitten to the emergency vet because my dog bit her when she ran by him while he was eating. My dog did not injure the pet sitter or act aggressive in any way, and while yes he did bite my kitten and she suffered fractures to her face and had to have an eye removed (all very serious), he only bit once and I don't think he even meant to make contact (and I think the severity of the injuries was due more to size differences). My point being that this was an accident and he is not an aggressive dog. The sitter told me about the Rover Guarantee and stayed in contact with me throughout the process and check in on how the kitten was doing. We both gave written statements and then the next day I received an email letting me know that they closed my account. As I said, this sitter had watched my dog 2-3x before, I have never received any warnings from Rover, there have never been any prior safety incidents, and as far as I know all feedback/reviews I had received had been positive. This was a simple accident, which is to be expected when working/living with animals. It doesn't feel right for them to close my account (without even giving a specific reason) due to an accident (that can be prevented in the future). I told the sitter and they were completely taken aback by Rovers response.

I have had a couple of very positive experiences with finding caretakers, but also have now had a bad experience with Rover themselves sending me a threatening email about taking me off the platform without first hearing from me on what happened. A Person that I was wanting to watch my pet had setup two different meet and greets and I took of work both days, and they never showed for either appt. I then informed her without tone, but matter of fact that being she had not shown for either booking I was canceling my appt. She became indignant saying we never had firm appts, although both were documented in Rover chat, and that "I don't want you as a Client" I wanted to report her to Rover support, but the platform has no way to do that if you have never actually completed the booking. I admittedly got hot after the indignant response, and typed out of anger, and for that ONLY I was wrong.

Bad experience. Lack of response from sitters. No service quality guarantee.

They don’t vet their sitters well. I have booked and been ask by the sitter to drop my dogs with their parents, friends and even once to drop them off at a nursing home. On all occasions I have an overnight boarding, and my drop off time is 1900, when I go to pick up time, it only gives me the option to choose from 1930-2330. I tell the sitter the actual pick up time is 8am in the notes. However, Rover add an additional £35 for an extended boarding, as it is over the 24hrs. I asked to pay cash and they blocked me, because they wouldn’t get any commission, which I understand but don’t try to rip me off in first place

Be very careful when using Rover. Our dog sitter cancelled on us right before holiday for no good reason. We could not find a new sitter hours before holiday so we have lost the holiday. Rover blocked us from giving feedback to the dishonest sitter and warning others. Also the sitter had lied about several things on their page like being non smoking or not having children. The sitter also had no clue about the park 500yards away from their house so it was all very strange and suspicious from the start but Rover maintained to keep the blind eye on it. If you read Rover T&C there is no protection to you or your pet. Rover hides the issues people experiencing so that all looks great at first and they don’t loose the income. And the truth is that when you are on holiday your dog might be locked in the shed 24/7 and you will never know because Rover does not allow you make negative feedback about the sitter
