1 star because we can't put zero!
1 star because we can't put zero!
Booked a cat sitter. When arrived at their place, saw the apartment was fifty. In talking with them I realized they had NO experience with cats. (Zero!) They did not know how to care for the cat and did not know how to deal with the litter. By the way they did not have anything for cats at their place. So they did not have a litter box.
After 5 minutes I decided to cancel and take my cst back with me.
I immediately contacted the platform to cancel. I just got my credit card back and I see that they kept ... $125!
When I contacted them to ask for full refund they just hide behind their policy where pet sitters are not their employees etc. etc..
The point is : they do not vet pet sitters, anyone can become a sitter on their platform, charge $300 for a few days and if you cancel they keep 50%.
Good business model I should think about for myself: 1) you become a pet sitter on their platform, 2) you make sure that when pets are dropped off the owner does not want to leave it with you - so they cancel immediately and leave. (you donMt need to do any work here). 3) You keep $100-$150 of the paid fees for yourself.
Not bad.
But worse is : If you love pets, KNOW THAT ROVER DOES NOT DO ANYTHING TO ENSURE YOUR PET IS SAFE.

Hello, thank you for your feedback, and we’re sorry to hear that this has been your experience. We understand your frustration and want to support you the best way we can. Sitters on Rover have the freedom to customize their business and that includes choosing their cancellation policy. While we cannot override a sitter’s policy, you are more than welcome to ask the sitter directly for a full refund. Additionally, each sitter profile is manually reviewed by our team to ensure it meets our quality standards. If approved, sitters can offer their services on Rover. We prioritize finding the right sitters and walkers. For assistance with your search, please contact our Rover Support Team at 888-453-7889. -Lexie

DO NOT USE ROVER
DO NOT USE ROVER! Or a sitter named Alex in CO. We returned from our trip to be told that our dog was missing and no one had contacted us or our emergency contacts. We took the search upon ourselves with no help from the sitter or rover. When she was found she was in rough shape and needed surgery. She had a cracked jaw and loose teeth that the dentist said could have been from getting hit. She also had cuts on her legs and missing nails. The sitter took no accountability and is still using Rover with no consequences. The rover site will not I’m even let us leave her a review. Unfortunately, during this period, we believe there was a significant lapse in care, resulting in neglect, disregard of care plan, leading to her running away from what we were told was a fenced in yard but in reality was broken. This whole experience has resulted in physical trauma for our dog as well as behavioral changes and increased anxiety. We have incurred substantial expenses including missing work, multiple vet visits and now additional training to help with her trauma.

A lady was behaving strangely regarding…
A lady was behaving strangely regarding my pets when I booked using the app. She offered to care for 2 of my pets for free(rabbits) in addition to my dog. After I dropped off my dog and 2 rabbits, she tried to tell me that she would not be providing me updates on my 2 rabbits because she wanted to be discreet because Rover doesn’t offer rabbit pet sitting. She could have just texted them to me as she had my number. Instead she told me I needed to call her and discuss it the next day. I immediately told her someone else would be caring for my pets because we had been talking about my rabbits since I first began communicating with her a year ago.
After I decided to not continue the booking with her anymore then she miraculously found my number and explained herself and provided photo updates, but beforehand she was showing her true colors and she thought because I was out of state that I wouldn’t be able to get my pets from her care and that she could do the absolute bare minimum and that is NOT okay.
This lady was a ‘Star Sitter.’
She also said that she doesn’t allow strangers in her home upon me dropping off my pets which was very strange. So I never knew where my pets would be in her home because I was not allowed in. This was awkward and uncomfortable because she did not explain anything about this beforehand even though we had been in communication for a year. Highly don’t recommend.

BE CAREFUL USING THIS SERVICE
BE CAREFUL USING THIS SERVICE. I have three incidents to share by three different Rover sitters, all of which are still active on Rover in the upstate NY area:
1. While walking my two huskies, the sitter's boyfriend dropped my dog's leash. My dog went missing for six hours nearby a highway in an un-safe city. I was across the country and at one point settled on the fact that I was not getting one of my huskies back. Rover's support team was of absolutely NO help in this situation besides telling me to post on facebook and to call the police, which I had already done plus some.
2. After a sit, I received numerous inappropriate videos including the sitter showing their male parts in the video. I contacted Rover's support team and they essentially advised that I do a better job assessing sitter profiles.
3. Over Christmas Eve, I had to call an emergency locksmith because the sitter took my keys the night before, disabling anyone else from getting inside my apt, after my dogs had been un-walked for 17 hours. One of my dog's was peeing blood.
I have not received a DIME for these damages besides canceling and reimbursing me for A PORTION of the sit on Christmas eve. This sitter was still paid, never returned my keys.
The Christmas incident was this past christmas 2024, the NSFW unsolicited content was back in May, and my dog went missing was in 2023.
I realize there are several good sitters on Rover, but there are MANY BAD ONES. Rover is completely and utterly unsupportive, unresponsive, and rude. For my Christmas Eve case, they ignored me for 3 weeks, which to me says they do not take their clients' safety or the animals safety seriously. I'm embarrassed to say I still use this service honestly.

Rover isn’t the place to look for consistent positive pet care
Care provided was outstanding. Rover app design is inconvenient and clearly designed for profit and not to connect pet owners and sitters.

1-There should not be a star sitter…
1-There should not be a star sitter program. Just because a sitter doesn’t have a specific # of clients per month or a specific # of repeat clients, this doesn’t make them better than the ones that don’t.
2-There should not be a cap on the # of reviews that a sitter can receive via testimonials.
3-Regarding times available for dog walking and drop in visits, there should be more options not just 3 time slots. Any bookings anytime after 5pm should be a charged a higher fee, especially if the weather is treacherous and one has to drive or walk in the snow (10pm should not even be an option)
4-The search tool on Rover is often inaccurate. After selecting my choices/requirements, the results come up with the wrong profiles. This needs to be fixed
