I am a sitter and dog I had over with no previous issues had severe diarrhoea and damaged the carpets and floorboards. They can’t be cleaned and we have to replace it as it soaked right through. I contacted rover support but they do not offer and protection to sitters and instead asking me to reach an agreement with the owners. So we are left with £700 coats to replace the damage and at owners mercy if they agree to pay us anything. I wonder why they take 14% fee from sitters? That’s apparently more for covering the vets fees and owners but what about the sitters? We are not protected at all and do it at our own risk

i loathe this company's web site
i loathe this company's web site. I've used many times in the past to try to connect with potential sitters. You are required to enter "request for service" dates before even having met with a sitter. Sitters post dates of availability that they don't have. The last sitter I texted with works Mon-Thursday from 8:00-4:30 pm but shows these dates as available. I waste so much time trying to find help on this web site. Hate it!!

Dog Bite, Rover didn’t help
I’ve been a pet sitter on the app for about 7 years. I bring a lot of experience, and have over 90 positive, 5-star reviews and many repeat clients. Rover takes 20% of every sit which makes it borderline not worth it. I expect that if I have a situation come up, that’s what I’m paying for. I had a meet and greet with a client where their dog lunged at and bit me requiring I go to Urgent Care to get a tetanus shot and antibiotics. I called Rover support to report the incident and talked with someone who did not offer me any help regarding what the process is or what to do next. He asked me why I was calling and seemed genuinely confused after I already explained I was calling to report a dog bite. I said to report a dog that bites? And to see what can be offered in terms of reimbursement for the hospital visit I’m going towards? They told me that would have to be worked out between me and the owners. The owners offered nothing. I have quite literally paid over $5000 to Rover in unspecified fees to be given no assistance, no compassion, and no offer of reimbursement or insurance to cover an injury received by an animal through the app. Truly disturbing to see I pay so much for nothing. What is the point of operating through the app if you’re not vetting the animals or offering to protect the contractors who earn you your money?
Edit: what assistance? The only assistance that would actually be helpful and show that you work to protect your contractors would be to cover the hospital visit and medications. Otherwise it shows that contractors take on an amount of risk not covered by a flimsy insurance plan that somehow requires 20% of their payment, every time. The only reason I use Rover is to be covered in situations like this.

My dog almost died using Rover
My dog almost died and was temporarily paralyzed. I spent $750 dollars at the vet and 3 weeks taking care of him. Here’s the best part, rover couldn’t identify what was wrong with him based on the vet notes. My experience was awful

Honestly, don’t be fooled.
Rover may sound like a great idea, but aside from paying for the background check, I can honestly say that it is a waste of money. After I signed up with Rover and pay for my background check, I immediately received a request which I know was fake, they do this to make it seem like Rover is active and will work. It is more of an automated response stating that they needed a sitter for a couple of days, and then all of a sudden, they had a family member that was going to watch their pet. The other problem was, I had somebody reach out to me at night, asking if ? It is more of a automated response stating that they needed a sitter for a couple of days, and then all of a sudden, they had a family member that was going to watch their pet. The other problem was, I had somebody reach out to me at night, asking if I was available. I responded to them and said yes. All of a sudden, they told me that they’re out of state, which to me is not a problem. I asked them where I could find the key on the property and they said that there should be some type of a box. I asked them What box and where could it be located? I had no response. By this time it’s almost 10 o’clock at night. I text them again and received nothing. Finally they text me back and randomly said that I would have to go to this random person‘s house to pick up a key. I reached out to them a couple times and never heard back so the booking was canceled And then they have the audacity to leave a poor review. It’s not hard to do the math, so you can see how shady it really was. Will you make money with Rover, probably, depending where you live and your availability, but a few people that I spoke with that dealt with Rover and tried to be a sitter, had nothing good to say about it.
