The sitter did not represent the quality or excellence I would expect from this company. She lied about the tasks she would perform and misrepresented herself and the Rovers brand. It is difficult enough letting a stranger into my home, but to have one of such poor quality makes me realize I’ll never use Rover again. We will take our dogs with us if we have to next time.

Rover has treated me really badly
Rover has treated me really badly. I am a dog sitter registered with them and even though I have earnt them a lot of money as they take 15% of everything I earn they have dropped me from the searches and put me on a ‘low follow through rate’ as they are saying I haven’t had enough repeat customers. Well I have only been doing this for 6 months and have 19 five star reviews. I have tried talking to them and not getting anywhere as they say I have to have repeat customers. I can’t force people to have more than 1 holiday a year! Also how am I meant to get repeat customers when nobody can find me on the searches. I am very frustrated and disappointed by the service they provide to the sitters registered with them.
As per your reply I am based in the Uk so haven’t got a telephone number to discuss this with anyone. I have tried the chat and emails but am getting stupid replies about building up my clientele when I cannot do that as you have made it impossible for anyone to find me on the search function. If you really think you can help telephone me on 00447512277667
Yet again in response to your reply. That number is for emergencies only so nobody will discuss this issue with me. Are you able to get someone to ring me on the number above?

-Brittney

This was a negative experience
This was a negative experience. Buyer Beware.
Company is dysfunctional as far as their communication and cares more about making a profit than vetting pet sitters.

If you care for your pet, avoid this app
Booked a ‘house sitter’ while we were out of town for 4 days. We wound up having a bad house sitter. They left the dogs for 11 hours, didn’t stay the night, was spending a total of 40 minutes a day with our dogs. I complained to Rover they stood by the dog sitter and would not refund. They do not take into account the care for pets. Their service is also bad. They sent us one email and said they will not respond if we have questions or additional concerns.
Long story short, it’s an app trying to make money and not run by pet lovers.
If you care for the welfare of your pet, avoid this app.

Hi Michael, we’re sorry this was your experience. As pet owners ourselves, we understand how important it is to feel confident in the care your pets receive. Rover sitters are independent contractors, and while we ask that refund requests be discussed with the sitter first, we’d be happy to review your concerns further. Our Trust and Safety team is available 24/7 at (888) 727-1140. -Brittney

Four Years as a Sitter Ended With Vague Answers
I am extremely disappointed with how Rover handled the investigation and eventual removal of my account. I do not believe the process was handled fairly, thoroughly, or transparently.
When it comes to an “investigation” that can ultimately result in permanently removing a sitter from the platform, I believe there should be more personal, one-on-one communication. Instead, my experience consisted mainly of phone calls and emails. Whenever I received a call, I was often simply asked to verify my name, with very little meaningful information or explanation provided afterward. I was left without clear answers regarding exactly what was being investigated, what findings were made, and how Rover reached its final decision.
After approximately four years of caring for pets, the number of incidents involving dogs in my care was fewer than 10. Many of the concerns involved relatively minor issues such as diarrhea associated with stress or a change in environment, minor scratches or small nips that can occur during normal dog interactions and play, or environmental/allergy-related symptoms. While I understand that every incident involving an animal should be taken seriously, not every medical or behavioral issue that occurs during a stay is necessarily caused by negligence or something a sitter could reasonably prevent.
What has been especially frustrating is feeling that the same level of concern and support was not extended to me as a sitter. I previously reported an incident involving a client’s dog attempting to bite me, yet my report was rejected and I did not receive meaningful follow-up regarding what happened. Experiences like this made me feel that my safety and perspective were not being given the same consideration.
I understand and respect Rover’s responsibility to protect pets and pet parents. However, sitters are also an important part of the platform and deserve appropriate support, communication, and an opportunity to be heard—especially after years of providing services through Rover.
If Rover is going to conduct an investigation with consequences as significant as permanent account removal, there should be a genuine two-way investigation. Sitters should have an opportunity to speak directly with someone handling their case, explain the circumstances surrounding each incident, provide supporting information or documentation, answer questions, and understand the evidence and reasoning behind the final decision.
I do not feel that I received the level of support or transparency that I deserved throughout this process. Even if Rover ultimately decides to maintain its decision, I believe I am entitled to a clear and detailed explanation of why my account was removed rather than vague statements, limited phone conversations, and emails that leave important questions unanswered.
I hope Rover seriously considers improving its investigation and appeals process so that both pet parents and sitters are treated fairly, respectfully, and consistently.

-Brittney

Awful service, never again
Awful service.
Typically, you’ll use this because you’re going away. Well good luck sticking to any plans when sitters can drop out on the day with zero consequences and you’re left to deal with everything because nobody at Rover answers the phone.
Rover will take payment instantly but if a sitter cancels? You bet your ass you’ll be waiting 2 weeks to get your money back.
Edit: I hate how they try to blame the bank for refunds taking long. It is absolutely nothing to do with my bank whatsoever and the reason is 100% down to Rover.
Response from Rover.com | Pet SittingAug 31, 2026
Hi Andi, we’re sorry to hear how stressful this experience was. Last minute cancellations can be incredibly disruptive when you’re relying on care for travel. Refunds are issued once a booking is cancelled, but your bank may take additional time to post the funds. If you still haven’t received yours or need help finding replacement care, Rover Support is available 24/7 at (888) 453-7889. -Brittney
