Best, but could be better
Of the 3 big online pet sitting services I’m aware of, I like Rover the best. Rover does checks on sitters and doesn’t require a membership. They also charge minimal fees to the sitter and the client. Their website could use some improvements. It’s difficult to find a sitter you’ve used in the past and there is no way to filter by things like “work from home” if you need a sitter who can spend more time with your pets during the day. Also, there is no easy way to filter out people who have kids or dogs that would be staying in your home along with the sitter. There also doesn’t seem to be any protection against sitters cancelling at the last minute when you have a trip planned. They refund your money for the sitting, but don’t help you find another sitter so you don’t have to cancel your trip. It would be great if they could offer that additional support even if for a fee. Overall I’ve been happy with the service from Rover, but I would be very nervous traveling out of the country without some guarantee my pets will be cared for if something happens with the sitter.
