Rover Enables Defamation, Silences Sitters, and Ignores Its Own PoliciesAs a long-time, well-reviewed pet sitter on Rover, I never expected that the company I worked hard to represent would be the one
As a long-time, well-reviewed pet sitter on Rover, I never expected that the company I worked hard to represent would be the one to betray me. After declining to continue services for an unreasonable client, I was hit with a defamatory review filled with blatant lies. I provided evidence to Rover — multiple times — showing that the review violated their own Terms of Service, which clearly prohibit “intentionally misleading or defamatory content.” And yet, Rover refused to remove it. Not only did they ignore their own policies, but they made it clear that protecting their platform image matters more than protecting the very contractors who keep their business running. This isn’t just about one review. It’s about a system that enables abuse, ignores legitimate concerns, and punishes sitters for standing up for themselves. I’ve now filed formal complaints with the Competition Bureau of Canada, and I’m exploring legal options for defamation, negligence, and lost income. If you’re a sitter: be warned. Rover will not protect you. If you’re a pet owner: please understand the damage caused when platforms refuse to moderate obvious lies. This isn’t a community — it’s a company. And they’ve made it clear who they stand by. And it’s not us.
