Worst rental experience- SKBR property…
Worst rental experience- SKBR property at Lynbrook, NY This was, without question, one of the worst rental experiences I have ever had. What should have been a peaceful place to come home to after long days at work became a constant source of stress, frustration, and anxiety. I would strongly advise anyone considering this property to look elsewhere. The problems started almost immediately after I moved in. Within *30–45 minutes of my arrival*, before I had even finished unpacking, I received an urgent message demanding that the rent be paid "ASAP." This was despite the fact that I had literally just moved in. I promptly sent proof of payment, which revealed that the issue was entirely due to poor internal communication on their end. It set the tone for the rest of my stay. Ironically, while they were extremely quick to demand rent, they did not show the same urgency when it came to returning my *security deposit. Although it was supposed to be processed within the agreed timeframe, it took **well over a week* after I checked out and required reminders from my end before it was finally returned. The double standard was impossible to ignore. The biggest issue with the property itself was the handling of maintenance. Within days of moving in, my bedroom ceiling fan developed a persistent clicking/crackling noise that made sleeping extremely difficult. I reported it immediately. While the homeowner was polite in their messages, polite communication is not a substitute for timely action. What followed was nearly *two weeks* of cancelled appointments, electricians who never showed up, contractors who declined the job because it was "too small," repeated assurances that someone would come "tomorrow," and constant delays. During this entire period, I had to continue living in a room where I struggled to get a proper night's sleep because of the noise. To make matters worse, there was also *construction work happening upstairs* during my stay, adding another layer of disruption. Between the construction noise, the faulty ceiling fan, and the uncertainty around when anything would actually be repaired, the property rarely felt like a comfortable place to come home to after work. Eventually, the solution wasn't repairing the ceiling fan at all—it was simply removing it and replacing it with a floor fan. Although this finally stopped the noise, it came only after the majority of my stay had already been negatively affected. A maintenance issue that should have been resolved promptly ended up defining most of my time there. The other major reason I would never recommend this property was the shared living environment, specifically because of my experience with another tenant, *Dhruti Patel*. Living in shared accommodation requires maturity, mutual respect, and basic courtesy. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Rather than communicating directly and respectfully, Dhruti repeatedly chose passive-aggressive handwritten notes over minor issues in the shared spaces. The notes were unnecessary, condescending, and created an uncomfortable atmosphere in what should have been a shared living space. Instead of fostering a friendly environment, I constantly felt as though I had to second-guess every small thing I did in the common areas to avoid another complaint. It reached the point where I deliberately stopped responding because engaging only seemed to encourage more unnecessary tension. No tenant should have to feel uncomfortable simply using a kitchen/ bathroom or living space they are paying to share. I was always respectful of the property and the people around me. I cleaned up after myself, followed the house rules, paid my rent, documented everything carefully, and made every effort to be considerate. In return, I expected the same level of courtesy from the people I was living with. Unfortunately, I never felt welcome. Instead, the atmosphere was tense, awkward, and unnecessarily unpleasant throughout my stay. Overall, while the homeowner was courteous in messages, the management of the property consistently fell short. Important issues lingered, timelines slipped repeatedly, maintenance took far too long, communication between staff was poor, and there always seemed to be another reason why something couldn't be resolved. At the same time, the shared living environment made what could have been an inconvenience into an experience I simply wanted to escape. By the end of my stay, I was counting down the days until I could leave. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience genuinely had a significant impact on my well-being and my overall time in New York. I cannot recommend this property.
