Overall I like the product. It has a great design and function. We did have some boards that were bowed and the pieces of wood inside that you can hang things from were not of good quality and broke. We had to use metal mending plates to hold the broken pieces together.

I wanted to love the coop
I wanted to love the coop, I like the coop. The hinges on the nest boxes came pre-attached and half of them were put in locations where they're unusable because the latches go into the adjacent wire. The door being in three pieces is quite awkward. Getting it straight enough to function properly is difficult enough that I'm probably just going to hire someone to make me a new door. Also I wish there was an option to get (or get plans for) a baseplate made of long pieces of lumber. It would be hugely more sturdy and easier to level. It's very pretty but not 100% sure I'd get another one.
Edited after R&R's kind reply. Thank you, I will give you a call. I really do *like* the coop and think it is extremely pretty, and the design is largely well thought out, I wanted to politely point out problems I had for other buyers to help them work around them. I am sure that with the changes you are making to the design it is moving significantly closer to a complete "home run".

Good morning, Janeen. Thank you for the feedback!
Offering a kit for a lumber base is something we have considered, but not financially viable. The cost of shipping the boards required pushed us out of offering something to the customer at a reasonable price point. We do have a section on each of our product pages that details the ground dimensions of the coop so our customers complete a project as you've suggested. I wish we knew earlier, we could have pointed you to that page!

Your complaints about the latches and the door are valid. We have actually just completed a redesign on the coop and have solved both of those issues. We are constantly listening to feedback from our customers and what you have mentioned has come up a handful of times recently. We took action and going forward those will not be problems for our customers.
I would like to offer you the new redesigned one piece door if you would be interested in making the switch as well as a wire cutter to remove the interfering sections that are blocking your window bolt. If you would allow us to make those fixes for you please reach out to us at [email protected].
If you have any other suggestions please call us! I promise if we heard from you prior to seeing this review we would have already had your issues solved. We love to talk to our customers and we always listen to feedback on how we can better serve you.

Absolutely adorable little urban coop!
Absolutely adorable little urban coop!
I have two hens and a rooster in it. He is very territorial and hated when I would stick my hand it to fill the feeder. Now, I can fill it from the top so he doesn’t freak out and attack. I will use it as a breeding pen next year. I was able to build it myself, even though the directions call for two people.
The only thing I don’t like so far is that the nest box floor pops out near the waterer. I may prop that up from underneath. I am also unsure how it will function in the winter. That remains to be seen.

Thank you for your review, Jennifer. I think it's our first for the Urban Coop!
We have about 30 in the market right now and feedback is incredibly valuable. Would you be willing to send us a picture of the problem you're having with your eggbox? This isn't an issue we have encountered yet so we would love to problem solve it with you!
We will reach out via the email we have in our order system. If you see this and have a picture available we love to see it ([email protected]).

The end product is great!
The end product is great, and I am very happy about this addition to our homestead. I have been dreaming of purchasing this grand coop for about 5 years, but scared away at the price never thinking I would be able to buy it. When I saw the coop at 40% off, I jumped on it. Just for that fact, I should be giving this 5 stars, but I am being honest as though I paid the full amount. I made sure every bit of wood was soaked with linseed oil, before we put it together. The reason I didn't give it a 5-star review is because some of the wood was chipped, and some of the wood was not the quality of what I would have purchased (very roughly cut lumber), but I am very picky.
The square devices for the food dispenser are such that my chickens keep going at it until there is a full layer of food all around and they empty the food out. We are considering retooling it to see what the options are for fixing it this summer while my hubby is off. I love the water dispenser, however. Easy work there! Love the ease of checking it and filling it.
My chickens caught on to the nesting boxes right away, and it is a snap to gather eggs. The issue I am most concerned about is that after over a month, they still will not sleep in the roosting box. We have put them in there to encourage them to explore there, but nope, they won't sleep in there, as of yet. Maybe it is too high and they don't want to walk up the steps to sleep up there. Maybe the walkway is too narrow; I don't know, but there is no poo, so I know they don't sleep in there. If you have any advice, we are ready to listen.
We added a bungie cord to the door, so it will close behind us like a normal swing door when we walk in. My husband came up with that. We also added our electric fence around the front chicken door, so they have more room outside as well. I wish there was a chicken door on the opposite side and maybe in the run, but we make do.
Overall, as I said before, the end product is great! It was worth every penny at the 40% discount. I am very happy and feel blessed my chickens have such a great dwelling. Don't pass up this product; at 40% off, this is a deal!

Thank you for the review, Katheryn.
Any luck with the birds getting into the roost? It often seems to take some time for the birds to get used to their new home. We always hear back that they eventually climb up the ramps as designed.
Glad you were able to take advantage of the deal. It's back available at that price for the moment for anyone reading.

Purchaser of 2 R&R coops.
So I have purchased 2 coops from Roost & Root. Started with the smaller “Round-top coop” which was very well made, but a huge pain to clean out. I also didn’t love the chickens having to hop down from the roost bars directly onto hardware cloth as everything I read/heard said that was a sure fire way for them to get bumble foot. So we lined the roost area with linoleum… made it easier to clean out, (the poop will NEVER fall through hardware cloth btw…) and solved the potential foot injury problem.
After I got tired of having to get on my knees to clean the run area out, and sticking my head inside a poopy roost to clean out every day, I decided it was time to upgrade to the smallest walk-in coop.
Again, the new coop was really well made. Easy to assemble. Easy to clean, and access water, food, eggs, etc..
There is/was just one failry major issue… There is no ramp up to the roost bars. The chickens are supposed to “hop” up which seems a little odd when you have 4 chickens trying to get to the roost bars at the same time. One of my girls is “portly” and she ended up sleeping on the floor of the run by herself getting pooped on from above. I messaged R&R and didn’t hear back for over a week. They said it would resolve itself. But it didn’t… so I had to build a ramp for her and redesign the lower part of the coop. Not what I would expect for the money. They really should just put a damn ramp in…
Anyway, I love the quality, but think the design should be a little more conventional. Most chicken coops have a ramp for a reason…

Lorraine -
Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We certainly hope for happier reviews, especially from repeat customers.
We went through our correspondence about your bird that had trouble with the jump bars. We must have miscommunicated. We do have people from time to time report that their birds have a learning curve with adjusting to the use of the bars. We always recommend to give the birds some time (they are really smart!) and to reach out again if the birds have not adapted.
We have constructed a ramp for three other Stand Up coop customers. While it can help smaller or less mobile birds up to the bars, it can be a pain to clean.
We moved away from the traditional ramp on our Stand Up model to help make cleaning the coop easier for customers. We really do get great feedback in most cases. That model has become our most popular coop!
We would like to offer to build a custom ramp and ship it to you free of charge. We put quite a bit of time into constructing it in a way that doesn't create any extra work for the customer other than attaching the ramps with screws. This would allow you to revert the coop back to the original design.
If you're interested please reach out to [email protected].

A cut above
Roost and Root chicken coops are a cut above. I particularly like their attention to detail and craftsmanship. Instructions were relatively easy to follow as well. Looking forward to lots of fresh organic eggs.

We love this greenhouse
We love this greenhouse! It’s really well designed and just the right size for us. I would have given it 5 stars, but the solar ventilator system arrived in a box that was broken open (we weren’t home when it was delivered) with some screws shaved off and missing. We were able to replace those at a local hardware store. Our friend that helped us put it together had some trouble understanding the instructions, but figured it out. The magnetic screen door will arrive soon and we look forward to putting it up. The folks at Roost & Root were very responsive to our questions. I would recommend this greenhouse - it’s a great addition to our yard/garden.

Thank you for being part of our early adopter program (EAP), Lindea! We were very lucky to find 10 individuals that agreed to help us through the difficult process of perfecting a product as ambitious as our greenhouse. The feedback we have received from you and the 9 other customers in the program has been invaluable.
Since the first 10 greenhouse went out to the EAP customers we have changed our packaging process for the AVM kit. It will now ship via UPS Freight rather than UPS Ground. The next 20 units have arrived without a scratch! Please know that if you ever order from us again any shipping damage done to our product will be fix/replaced by us free of charge.
We have also had two revisions to our instructions since we sent out the EAP Greenhouses! If your friend has any specifics on which areas were difficult to understand we'd love to hear from him or her ([email protected] ).
We are grateful for the recommendation and happy to hear that you love your Slant Roof Greenhouse! Thank you for being a valued customer. As we introduce new products to market please consider being part of future EAPs.
