Plan Ahead and Test
My experience with milk paint was not good, but perhaps it's my fault. I saw a YouTube video where they mixed flag red and black iron. The resulting color was exactly what I was looking for...or so I thought. After carefully mixing and applying on my bare wood project, it looked good wet but not at all what I wanted after it dried. I applied both Varathane finishing wax and Minwax Polycrylic as a topcoat, but neither did the trick. Perhaps if I had wax from the Real Milk Paint Co it would have looked better, but I didn't have time to wait for a shipment. I also tried several other mix formulas trying to get my desired color, but no joy. Milk Paint might be a great product if you can get the color you want and use their topcoats, but it didn't work for me.

Thanks for the honest feedback. Waterbase top coats tend to look foggy on dark colors. This may be what happened ? Oil base finish top coats tend to darken the color of the paint .Hopefully, this information is helpful
