I never have had an experience with remote year that warranted anything but a positive review but Medellin with Cata and Maria is even better than the rest. The neighborhood is lush and green. The cafes and restaurants are mouthwatering the people are beautiful.

An amazing time
The people that you meet, the community leaders, the programming, everything met or exceeded my expectations. Definitely an experience worth doing for those with the privilege to do so!

Chiang Mai Experience
Remote Year offers once in a life time experiences such as feeding and bathing elephants. The staff are remarkable people. In Chiang Mai, I had Hajira and Miao there for support and assisting me with any difficulties I may have encountered. These two individuals worked nonstop to ensure everyone in the group was enjoying themselves and taken care of.

1st Time on Remote Year: 1 Month in Buenos Aires!
I just completed the 1-month program in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This incredible experience is truly what you choose to make of it. RY attracts a really awesome community of people who are each at different and unique places in their lives. The program creates an environment for meeting so many different needs - some are here to explore a new destination within the comfort and safety of the community. Some are seeking the best foodie experiences. Some are here on a spiritual or growth journey, to learn about themselves and the world around them. Some are seeking new connections. Some want to live their best lives while nomading around the world. My personal journey was one of growth, learning and exploration. I celebrated a big birthday during this month - our community leader, Ale, went above and beyond to make it a really fun and special celebration. The RY staff are very helpful, proactive, and they go out of their way to ensure the group is enjoying their experience.
Bueno Aires is a beautiful city! There are endless amazing restaurants, bars, and speakeasies to explore. My apartment was modern and safe (with a doorman). The weekend excursions are awesome as well! Iguazu Falls was a spectacular bucket list experience that far exceeded expectations. If you're seeking adventure, making new connections, growth experiences, and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, RY is for you!

1 month in Bali: the absolute dream!
Bali was an absolute dream. From Bali's dreamy landscapes, beaches, waterfalls, etc. to Vita, an amazing human who was our community and city manager (who also became very quickly our friend), everything about this trip was perfect. She curated incredible experiences for us and made sure we would build a sense of community. And of course, I got to meet wonderful people who became friends.
This trip exceeded my expectations in every way! I have done a few programs with RY and will definitely continue travelling with them.

Remote Year Changed My Life
Remote Year changed my life! To date, I've done 3 programs with Remote Year; Chicago, Peru & Florianópolis - all equally incredible but as one of the newest destinations available I couldn't recommend Floripa enough! I didn't even know it existed before I booked it but I'm so glad I took a chance. The island is incredible, a perfect blend between city & island living - you can be typing away in the co-work one minute and then hopping on a boat the next. Not to mention the City Leader Thiago is absolutely wonderful, and the experiences he's curated for Floripa are brilliant - in fact, I enjoyed them so much I did one of them twice (Oyster Farming - not to be missed!)
I'm already jealous of everyone who gets to experience Floripa for the first time - if I could I'd go back and do it all again.
If you're looking for a sign to book a Remote year program then this is absolutely it - I promise you you won't regret it!

My one-month travel in Floripa was an…
My one-month travel in Floripa was an amazing experience, thanks to the great city manager Thiago and the community leader Ale. Thiago's friendly and helpful attitude made every tour and activity truly extraordinary. He always went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Ale, on the other hand, was warm and welcoming, always making sure that everyone was included and having a good time. Their efforts made our group feel like a family, and I cannot thank them enough for their dedication and hard work. Moreover, Floripa is a safe place with friendly and warm people, which made my stay even more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend Floripa and the fantastic team that made my stay unforgettable.

Get the most out of your trip by doing it with others
If you've traveled solo before and wonder if there's benefit to joining a group - there most definitely is. Adding a rich social aspect to the journey is amazing, and having great local guides (like Cata and Maria) is a huge advantage. Previously, I had traveled around the world in 3 months solo. This experience is much better.
I spent just one month in Medellin, Colombia, and I wish it were longer. We discovered parts of the city that I never would have on my own, and met people (both locals and travelers) that I otherwise would not have.
We also had a side trip to Santa Marta - which was the highlight of most people's month - river kayaking, nightlife, and a day at a beach cove. It was the perfect amount of adventure and fun for a long weekend.
If you've never been to a developing country before, you may have to adjust to a few things. But if you've ever gone to Southeast Asia, or most places in South America, then a trip to Medellin will feel relatively easy.
In most cases, the accommodations were quite nice (Alex in a recent review was an exception to that). It seems that in Medellin, they have very good apartments if you share (mine was nicer than most US apartments I've lived in), but if you get a private, it is a little riskier.
