REI has the best customer service of any store I've every shopped. High quality items, good value, friendly and knowledgeable staff and an excellent return policy.

I've been a co-op member since the early seventies, but have often strayed to get a better price elsewhere. While REI can't always provide the best price, they do provide the best customer service. I don't say that based on one or two experiences, but a lifetime of shopping there. I strayed recently, and that's the reason for this post. I had a very poor customer service at one of REI's competitors and it just drove home why I've been loyal (more or less - I admit it) to REI over the years. My next outdoor purchase will be from REI. I fully support their way of doing business, including their fairly recent change to only accept dissatisfaction returns within a year of purchase. Too many people were abusing the good will.

Love having experts help with small to big purchases and the ease of returning items if they don't work out. It can seem a bit expensive at times, but the quality is definitely worth it in the long run.

Sometimes you can tell how good a business by how they handle mistakes. Issue - traveling from west coast through Montana then into Canada for a wedding. We ordered two pieces of luggage as gifts for the couple. When we picked up 'the suitcases' there was only one piece. Mistakes happen. I phoned REI and explained the issue. They checked and verified - yes I had ordered two and yes only one was shipped -- ooops! They asked me what town we would be near as we traveled cross country and in two days we were going to be in a small Montana town. They asked where we would be staying - I gave them the name. When we showed up at the hotel - yes the suitcase was there. Rarely do you find businesses that effectively respond to customer issues - but this was sure one of them.

This is a great tent. Really impressed by the build quality but mainly the waterproof ability. If you need super light weight you might want to go with the Dash2... but it's much more expensive.

I have purchased from REI for many years. The products have ranged from laundry soap to outfitting my son and I for a self supported Grand Canyon crossing. I have purchased a kayak and a high end paddle. The prices are decent and sometimes very good with a sale. But the best part is the selection of high end equipment for so many activities, and the expertise of the sales people. I have always received great advice and fittings. Most recently I had an issue with the fit of a DryTop for kayaking. The customer service was phenomenal. And when I called back with another question, the sales associate had made detailed notes about my issues. For our family REI is an old standby!

REI is the bastion of quality, great customer experience and easy returns. I had an especially wonderful experience with REI as part of my wedding gift registry. Highly recommended for those couples who would prefer to backpack China than eat off China.
