Hi, We are genuinely sorry that this happened with a book intended as a birthday present, and especially that our communication left you feeling poorly treated. We would like to clarify the resolution for anyone reading this review. When the damage was reported, we initially offered a 20% partial refund. After further discussion, we instead issued a full refund for the order, and we did not require the damaged book to be returned, meaning you were able to keep the book at no cost. Because a full refund had already been issued and the book remained with you, we were unfortunately not able to also provide an additional free replacement. We understand, however, that what you originally wanted was a perfect copy for a birthday gift, and we appreciate why the refund did not completely solve that disappointment. We are also sorry that your request regarding our complaints procedure was not answered as clearly and promptly as it should have been. And if any of Polly's messages came across as rude, we sincerely apologise. That was never our intention. We are a small independent publisher, and cases like this matter to us personally. We would still be very happy to speak with you directly and see whether there is anything further we can reasonably do to leave you with a better experience. If, after the matter is fully resolved, you feel differently about how we handled it, we would of course be very grateful if you considered updating your review to reflect the final outcome.
