I supported The Codex project from its launch on Kickstarter in December 2024, particularly because French and Spanish editions were being offered. Like many other backers, I financially supported the project from the very beginning and helped make it possible.
The issues surrounding the translated versions became apparent, and I have been discussing this problem with them since May 2025. On several occasions, I was assured that the French and Spanish editions would indeed be produced.
It is now September 2026, almost two years after the project began, and the situation is quite unbelievable: I have received only one of the two books I ordered, and it was in English, which is not the version I originally selected.
Since then, despite repeated promises regarding the French and Spanish editions, there has been no concrete update. No production date, no delivery schedule, and no clear indication as to whether these books will ever actually be published.
Unfortunately, I am far from being the only disappointed backer. Many people have also complained on Kickstarter about the way the project has been handled and the lack of communication. It really feels as though the people who supported and funded the project at the beginning have now been pushed aside once the project got off the ground.
At this stage, after so much time and so many unfulfilled promises, I seriously doubt that the French and Spanish editions will ever be produced. If that is indeed the case, continuing to assure us that they would be produced amounts, in my view, to a promise that was simply not kept.
The concept behind The Codex was excellent, which is precisely why I supported it. However, the way some Kickstarter backers have been treated since then has been extremely disappointing. After helping fund the launch of the project, the very least we could have expected was for the commitments made to us to be honoured or, failing that, to be given clear information and offered a proper solution or refund.

Thank you for supporting The Codex from the beginning. We understand your disappointment about the French and Spanish editions, especially after such a long wait.
We would like to clarify that we communicated the translation issues and the decisions made through our Kickstarter updates. We have been transparent about the difficulties affecting these editions, although we recognise that receiving updates is different from receiving the books you originally expected.
As promised, the German edition is now available to Kickstarter backers at a substantial discount. This offer remains available to you, but we understand that a German edition may not meet your preference for French or Spanish.
Your concern about receiving only one of your two books also deserves a clear answer. Please contact our support team with your backer number so we can review your order and clarify the options available to you.
We value our original backers and take your disappointment seriously.

Wonderful book
This edition follows the ethos of the original The Codex. It is a beautiful, entertaining, interesting book with some twists and funny elements. I very much enjoyed the wonderful pictures!
I can’t recommend it enough.

Hey guys I just got my Codex of warfare…
Hey guys I just got my Codex of warfare in Greece and already love it and started reading it, I love the quality of the book but what I love most is that it's easy to read by everyone and every age, you know I love military history and strategy and from my experience all the books of that type is pretty boring to read, long columns, no illustrations to understand what the book talking about for academics I understand the long columns but for simple readers and especially young people and kids long columns are boring to read so this books completely solve that I loved that most but in General is a great book, next stop the Codex of inventions, because Humanity build on inventions and war!!

Great book
Great book. I love the illustrations. Communication was very good. The product is superb, although some of the texts seem to be AI generated.

Warfare & Inventions
I have mixed opinions when it comes to The Codex. I ordered both about the inventions and the warfare and when Inventions has impressed me, the Warfare - disappointed.
I'm certain that the authors do a great work of popularising history and their intentions are pure, and thanks to their work history is further preserved and the ancestors are given justice and their achievements are hightlighted. I have a lot to say, but both books are mostly accurate. I will state it now (in case someone read my review and thought it too long in the middle) and expand on my critical review further.
Codex of Inventions has great level of historical accuracy and beautiful art. I haven't found critical mistakes in either. I like the form of leading the reader chronologically through the ideas of humankind.
Codex of Warfare was a little bit like hitting the ground. My four main problems were: misleading (and somewhat critical) mistakes, questionable choices about either given information or art, poor organisation of space and inconsistent art style. One sentence I could use to sum it up would be: "On one hand it's great, historically accurate, attractive form, interesting. On the other we have a Mongol triceratops, historically inaccurate hidden blade of hashashins and epic DnD knights in immobile armors."
Lack of crucial people or formations for the history of warfare, like Normandy or Prussia, but given space for the legendary King Arthur (which had an impact on Europeans, yes, but in the book itself it's not even pointed out what the impact was and it looks like a whim of telling a liked legend). Or the part about Romans was very deeply disappointing: there is an absolute lack of telling how the Roman army was actually organised and what exactly made them be the conquerors of their world. Lack of information about Greco-Persian wars. No information that hoplons were a form of identification and made psychological impact aside from being practical - basic information. There is much more, unfortunately.
And even if it's treated more like a "fun fact" book it also has a lack of fun facts - for example, why no information about female gladiators? Why so little about the Cossacks or the pirates? Why no information about the espionage before 20th century? Also, in some cases I had the impression that the political history was more pointed out than the military history. Yes, politics and war are intertwined, BUT political history and military history are two different types and on some pages it felt like the political history was more important and military history only supported it.
Also I think it would be better if it was organised chronologically and by historical eras. It is not (I think the part about the medievals is the worst in this case) and it makes one confused.
About the art, it's not bad, but the inconsistency is striking. Some images are disastrously incorrect ("Ancient Siege"). I'm not going to say a word about AI, but I will say the word that if we're working with multiple artists with different art styles - it's better to put their work next to each other, rather than have one art style on page, let's say, 20, strikingly different art style on page 30 and then back to the first art style on page 40. It just doesn't look good. And also, it's not about the images with stylised recreation of historical work - it's about the images that were drawn by the artist from their own project.
It's worth noting that I am a professional in the field and passionate about art and history of warfare, so I was able to notice the big and small mistakes. I'm a little concerned about people who aren't able to notice on their own something's wrong (or determine if something's just a meme and not an actual fact) and the books would mislead them and spread misinformation.
It just looks to me that with Codex or Warfare there was no advice from professionals or the professionals were unprofessional - I imagine no actual professional would give thumbs up and think that giving an image of naval battle with canons in the middle of medieval times, giving an image of ancient Greeks for pages about Greek fire (used by the Byzantines) or dividing Knight Orders and the Crusades by well 10+ pages was a great or even good idea. Not to mention the misinformation I've pointed out earlier.
To sum up, Codex of Inventions is great, but I expected more and better from the Codex of Warfare (maybe a re-relase in the future with fixed mistakes AND art choices?).
Keep up the good work, dear Rebel Thinkers. You have a lot to offer and some mistakes must be done to get better. I'll gladly follow and support your further work.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful review.
We especially appreciate that you approached both books separately and recognised what you felt worked well in **The Codex: Inventions of the Human Mind**, while also being very specific about where **The Codex of Military History** fell short of your expectations.
Military history is an enormous subject, and creating this volume required making difficult decisions about what to include, how deeply to cover each period, and how to bring together the work of multiple writers and artists within a single book. Your review makes clear that some of those editorial and artistic choices did not work as well for a specialist reader, and we take that seriously.
We also want to distinguish between differences in editorial emphasis and potential factual inaccuracies. You have raised several very specific points, and rather than dismissing them, we would genuinely like to review them with our editorial team.
If you would be willing to contact us and share your detailed notes—particularly the historical inaccuracies or misleading illustrations you identified—we would be very grateful. Feedback from readers with professional knowledge of the subject is extremely valuable to us, especially when considering corrections and improvements for future printings or editions.
We are a small independent publishing team, and while we put enormous effort into research, writing and illustration, we do not believe our work is beyond criticism or improvement. Reviews like yours are useful precisely because they go beyond simply saying whether someone liked or disliked the book.
Thank you as well for your encouraging words at the end of the review and for continuing to support what we are building. We hope that our future books—and any improvements we make to existing ones—will earn the same level of confidence from you that **The Codex of Inventions** did.

First product (book) impression
Impression with the first product / project: I see the effort and quality put into such product(s). The book that was delivered looks definitely like a premium book. Way larger, heavier and more wrapped than expected, which is a good thing.
