Years of experience with breeder and important detail to consider
When the idea of a bringing in a new furbaby into the household I wasn’t sure of my options as times have changed and the last time I experienced getting a puppy the most popular method was shopping mall puppy stores. As we later learned the breeding techniques left alot to be desired but there wasn’t anyway to vet how these pups (and kittens) began their lives. So as part of my due diligence I researched my options and came upon PuppySpot. Of course the first thing we did was to read the reviews which for the most part included personal experiences. Of course no one is perfect and some folks will dig til they get the attention they set out to seek. Our first choice for a perfect breed for us and our lifestyle was a Cavapoo and we began our search from there. Almost immediately one available little girl caught our interest. After speaking with Lisa who was energetic and full of positive suggestions we entered into a contract for adoption. Right before the scheduled delivery date this adorable little girl received her final medical exam and it was determined that she had a condition which would have required surgery. Deciding that beginning this adventure with certain unknowns we elected to cancel the agreement for adoption and instead selected a different puppy; this time a male. Unfortunately for us PuppySpot’s policy is to relinquish responsibility for future health conditions arising after adoption so with this unknown we reluctantly searched for a different puppy. PuppySpot made it very easy to change direction and would not have known about any health issues until this final veterinary examination. It turned out not to be a serious condition, probably common for this breed but being an older gentleman I just wasn’t up for any unknowns. In further researching the profiles of the available puppies I soon realized as part of full disclosure the length of relationships with the breeders was provided. This first puppy’s handler had only 1 year of transactions with PuppySpot wheras the term of the relationship with the puppy we secured was 14 years. Our puppy came healthy, socialized, clean and almost housebroken which supports my belief that the longer there is a partnering the better the traits and characteristics of these puppies. My advice then is to find that detail about the puppy you’re about to bring into your life and consider the possibilities for newer partnerships. For those breeders having shorter exposure to working with PuppySpot there may be unknown issues not initially disclosed to PuppySpot and in no way would we give a lower than an excellent review.
