This site is a danger to mental health
Your filter request gets opposite results. I asked for a female therapist in my area to be suggested through psychology.com's search portal and it gave me men in literally other states. It's one thing to be a bad search tool. It's another to play with people's mental health. edit: lmao - what a response. let it be seen psychology.com staff aren't here to help you
Response from Psychology.comSep 13, 2026
Update, 29 September. I want to be straight with you. Psychology.com relaunched this summer and we are a very small team just getting started. In August our matching tool had exactly the bug you describe: it treated 'female' as a preference instead of a filter and pulled in out-of-state therapists when the local list ran short. That was fixed on 13 September and the matching tool has since been retired. The directory at psychology.com/therapist now shows every therapist's location and licence state before you contact anyone. If you want a hand-checked shortlist for your area, email [email protected] and I will put it together myself. If the site works for you now, I would be grateful if you gave it another look and updated your review. No hard feelings either way. Seph Fontane Pennock, founder
