I found this process impersonal and difficult. Also the external hard drive with my information I haven't been able to open it. I plugged into my new laptop but couldn't open it. I can open another external drive I had but not the one you gave me. Too complicated! Now I have to call you again, and figure out how to download my information. I am delighted you were able to retrieve my information, but I found the process without direct contact with real people difficult. Sorry.

Hello Robin, We are very sorry to hear that you felt the process was impersonal. If you would like to speak with me on the phone, I would love to address your concerns. We also have a technician ready to give you a call to help with downloading your information. We are very happy that our team was able to recover all of your data. I look forward to speaking with you. We want to be sure that we hear any feedback, as we know that it will help us improve our process. Sincerely, Lori Holloway

Even though, the data was recovered off of the hard drive submitted, I was disappointed with the service received. I was not kept apprised of the status of the repair, the service was more costly than originally stated, and the data recovery took much longer than was originally quoted. When I first contacted Proven Data Recovery, they were very responsive and even sent a courier to our location to pick up the hard drive. However, things changed after this. According to your company policy, “Throughout the process, we will keep you informed of the progress we make.” I would not receive updates until after I contacted the company. We also paid for emergency service, but Proven Data did not have a donor hard drive in stock, so one had to be ordered. The donor hard drive took two days to come in. This delayed the completion time of the repair, which ended up taking about a week and a half or more to complete. I understand that the repair might have been more complicated than what was first stated. However, we paid close to $4,000 for emergency service, which I do not believe we received. Lastly, when I asked to speak with a supervisor, I was placed on hold and then told someone would call me back, but I did not receive a call back. I called again and spoke with someone that claimed to be a supervisor, but he couldn’t make any decisions, so he had to speak with his manager. For the inconvenience that we experienced we were given a 10% credit, and we ended up paying $3,758.22. I believe that the service should have been much better for the price charged, and I also feel that the company should have been upfront and given us a more realistic time for the return and also for the quote from the very beginning.

The overall experience was positive. They did what they said they would do in the time frame the said they would. However, the cost was extremely high. It cost me more to have them fix the problem than the entity that created the Ransomware would have charged me. They know you are desperate to have it fixed, so they can charge a really high amount for the work.

So, I came across Proven Data Recovery on the brink of a total breakdown. Coming from a somewhat tech background, I tried everything I could to get my hard drive to turn on with no luck. I called their 24 hr emergency number and basically was routed to a call center. After giving all my information, I finally get a follow up e-mail a day later. They outline their potential costs and let you know they have an office near you. After one last ditch effort to recover the data on my own, I scheduled a time to go to their office the drop it off since their security is really tight at their Boston office. I get to the Boston office only to find out that no work is done there. They have a receptionist there, she takes your drive and ships it out. After a couple of days, I get an e-mail saying they got my drive and will begin working on it. Everything was real professional in regards to signing forms and such. In about 48 hours, they replied back that they could in fact recover the data and had 3 options in terms of price and speed which varies depending on how bad I needed it. I needed it back quickly so I chose the middle option which was somewhat affordable and about 3-7 business days. I figured I could wait that long. 4 business days later, I nervously call to get an update. I speak with someone and they tell me that I have the standard service. I get upset. He puts me on hold and says now he's going to put it on a emergency status and get 2 techs on it. Ok great I think. I might get my data back in a few days. After a couple of days, they update me on their progress. "Replaced heads twice, imaged most of the drive." Ok, I'm feeling confident now. 2 days later, no luck. The drive is not recoverable and if I want my drive back, then I have to pay the return shipping. That's fine. No recovery, no fee. It's only fair I return pay shipping. 9 day total turnaround from when they received my drive to tell me they can't do anything. Fast forward to today, I receive my data back from anther company. It took them 8 days on the turnaround time and it's in my google drive. I'm sure Proven Data Recovery can do what they say, but they couldn't for me. I'm sure different companies use different methods Overall, I'm not mad at them, because in the end they may have different methods on data recovery. What works for 1 drive may not necessarily work for another drive. Update: I spoke with Mark and Victor at Proven Data Recovery and they wanted to express their sincerest apologies that they were that they weren't able to recover the data. They have never been unsuccessful in recovering data just to have it recovered elsewhere. I didn't think I would hear from them and it just shows that they are committed to an excellent customer experience.

We take all client's feedback very seriously! After reviewing your case, I would like to address everything you mentioned. "I called their 24 hr emergency number and basically was routed to a call center. After giving all my information, I finally get a follow up e-mail a day later." -The client called in on a Friday at 10:35 PM and received a follow-up email Saturday morning at 12:20 AM. A call was made and no answer from the client. We sent another follow-up email the same day at 10:54 AM. "I get to the Boston office only to find out that no work is done there." -For security purposes, we never have the client drop off directly to our data recovery lab as we store data for sensitive clients such as government, financial, and medical companies. This is a common practice if you are dealing with a specialized data recovery company vs. a local tech shop. "After a couple of days, I get an e-mail saying they got my drive and will begin working on it." - On average for standard cases that are not put in as an emergency, it takes 2-3 business days. Emergency cases are evaluated within 2-6 hours of receipt as we indicated in the email sent on 8/05. "4 business days later, I nervously call to get an update. I speak with someone and they tell me that I have the standard service. I get upset. He puts me on hold and says now he's going to put it on a emergency status and get 2 techs on it." -Based on the engineer notes your drive experienced a head crash which will take longer than your average turn around time. The turn around times we provided you are based on averages as indicated in the quote. "9 day total turnaround from when they received my drive to tell me they can't do anything. Fast forward to today, I receive my data back from anther company. It took them 8 days on the turnaround time and it's in my google drive" -We sincerely apologize you had an unpleasant experience. Before deeming a case unrecoverable, we want to explore all means to recover your data. We have never seen a case that was unrecoverable at our company that was later recovered by another company in our many years of business. ***After investigating the client's claim, we covered the full cost the client paid to the other company including shipping. We hope that this shows our commitment to our customers and our reputation.***

It took about 3 weeks to get my data which I am thankful for. The first hurdle was dealing with the online messenger which is used as a communication tool between you and the data recovery team. I felt it would be easier if I could just call and talk to someone about my concerns rather than having to use the messenger especially since I didn't have access to a computer once my hard drive failed. I called the number associated with my case manager numerous times and never got a reply. The second hurdle was the electronic consent form that I singed, received a confirmation email for and then days later got a note on the messenger saying that in order to go forward with the recovery process I need to provide the consent form. I was able to provide a picture of the email confirmation from days prior and the process was able to move along after a short delay. The final hurdle was dealing with payment and picking up my external hard drive. The payment form states a price and payment options with a 5% cash discount. I chose the cash price and confirmed via messenger that the amount I am to pay is the cost - 5%. The billing team confirmed that I was correct. However when I went to pick up my laptop and data they wanted to charge me full price. Again, we couldn't connect with anyone via phone and my call was never returned. The second half of the issue when I went to pick up my things was that I was given a little device and my laptop and that was all. No explanation of how the device works, or what I am to do to access the files on the device since there was no cable provided with the external hard drive. I was beyond irritated at that point. The man in the lobby was nice enough to allow me to take my device and reassured me that the case manager would call me back before the end of the day to go over my concerns. None the less, I never got a phone call so I called shortly before close of business and was able to get a cord for the device shipped to me over night and an explanation of how the device works. Overall not the best experience, but it certainly wasn't a total disaster either. The job got done even though the process was cumbersome,

Hello there, The support was great and getting call backs were great. Much appreciated for the people/s call backs and they were all very pleasant to work with. If you just look up my service order number history, you will see what I'm referring too in the history of my case as to why I gave your company 3 stars. Case #311094 Your tool did work and my client is now back in business. Kind Regards, Kevin DaCosta
