As a paralegal looking for extra income, I took the transcript proofreading course. I had my first client within a week of graduating and have never had issues finding work despite minimal marketing efforts. I've actually had to turn work down on a few occasions and strongly believe the need is out there. I don't think it is realistic to replace a full-time income, but it is great for supplemental. The work is there but the eye strain and thought of reading depositions, murder trials, etc. in the amount you'd need to replace a full-time income is not something I personally could handle. I did quit my paralegal job and PA allowed me to earn extra income while helping care for my father-in-law while he was on hospice and build great connections. During that time, I was approached via LinkedIn by a recruiter from my state's court system. Long story short, I'm now an official court reporter. I'm a digital reporter as steno is a dying profession (their words, not mine - I was shocked they even found me qualified). I have full respect and admiration of their work, but between the court systems not being able to fill the positions and advancements in technology, many are transitioning to digital. It's a pretty sweet gig and I do credit Proofread Anywhere for giving me the tools to be successful and able to properly produce transcripts. The only reason I'm not giving it a fifth star is because working in the legal field so long, I know so many people who this would be a great fit for. Either as supplemental or those looking to retire while still earning some income. I asked about an affiliate program and "upon further review" I was denied because I don't have a blog and I'm not an influencer, so they weren't interested. I thought that was pretty crummy to not reward loyal customers/students who are earning money because of the course and want to share by word of mouth, but rather only those whose primary earning capacity is not based on their course, but as an influencer. Otherwise, I found it well worth the money.

I came out of the course feeling pretty experienced due to the number of practice transcripts that were provided to us. We also needed to pass a midterm transcript test and a final transcript test as well, so that helped bolster confidence in my proofreading abilities! However, it's very much a "buy the course and do the best you can on your own" type of situation (and they are transparent about that!). There really isn't personal support from the people who work for Proofread Anywhere. While you can ask questions in a Facebook group (and there's a lot of support there!), there's no actual investment from Proofread Anywhere to ensure their students understand the material. That's up to you. Also, it's a common complaint from the people who take the course that the annotated transcripts (kind of like the "answer key" for the practice work you do) need to be updated, looked at, etc. It's a source of frustration from many who take the course, and Proofread Anywhere doesn't acknowledge that frustration from their students. Overall, if you do the work, pay attention, etc., you'll be pretty ready for the "real world" of proofreading, but it can be frustrating at times to go through the course due to the fact that there's no real "teacher" to ask your questions to.

After working for a long time as a transcriptionist, this course gave me the tools I was missing to move into proofreading transcripts almost overnight from course completion. I do not hesitate to recommend this course to seasoned transcriptionists looking for better opportunities and a real career because the marketing and social networking resources alone made this course worthwhile for me in that regard. But for those brand new to the transcript space, I feel the course is lacking in a few fundamentals and overemphasizes punctuation, a greater concern for scopists.

I am a senior who needs additional income, and at the age of 72 needs to work from home. I've considered many things over the past few years and nothing has worked. I then discovered Caitlin Pyle on Facebook and it really grabbed me, because she asked "are you a word nerd who is always finding typos and mistakes everywhere?" And I thought, yes, how did you know? So I bought the course at the discount and began the journey. Incidentally, I thought the price of the course was very fair for the tremendous amount of information that you get. Little did I know how much I really didn't know! I am amazed and impressed at how much information exists in this course. Caitlin is extremely thorough. Not only does she take you through all aspects of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, etc., but she also delves deeply into mindset and maintaining a positive attitude in the midst of discouragement. For me, the quizzes and practice tests were difficult, but they needed to be in order for me to really learn. She includes many excellent resources and links to free materials to have at your fingertips for research. She also sends numerous emails intended to guide you as an entrepreneur. The big challenge I've had since the beginning of this course is my lack of tech skills, and it's still holding me back. I have indeed paid for tutoring and have learned much. But that would be my only criticism, that there is not a way within this course that someone with this problem could find help. However, I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in becoming a proofreader.

The Proofread Anywhere course was an essential starting point for my editorial career. I knew what I wanted to do, but I did not know how to get there. PA took me step-by-step through the basics of proofreading and turning it into an independent small business. I do recommend it for those who want to work in editorial but don't know where to begin. I am not a natural entrepreneur, so it was very helpful in that sense. It seemed a good financial investment for what I received, and though it is just a beginning and a building block for a newbie, it's good value for the money. Four stars because I work better under deadlines and the course is self-paced. It might be better for some students to have hard deadlines in order to get through the course in a timely manner. The business start-up information and the networking resources are very helpful.

I started the General Proofreading course with some trepidation about online learning. Boy was I surprised!. The lessons are well planned and sequenced for introducing new ideas and content. The lessons are self-paced. You can start and stop and continue when you have time. That's very convenient. This is not a schlock course--you will have to put in study time to do the work and be successful, but all the resources are right there. And if you need help, you just have to ask the FB group. There are many graduates and students and proofreaders there to assist. Overall the experience was good. The only reason I rated a four was I wish there was more video interaction and more specific coaching within the lessons. Also, reduce the number of discrepancies in the answer keys! Other than that, it was a good experience. We've been told the materials are being updated and improved. Can't wait to see the new materials. Thanks!

Overall I had a very positive experience going through the course. It was not entirely what I expected, as the main selling point of the course for me was how to get started freelancing and setting up my own business. I felt like the course was much heavier on the proofreading practice. That is not a negative at all; I was very glad for the practice. I just expected to be much better prepared to set up and run my own business. I liked how the course was easy to navigate, and the Facebook group was helpful as well, especially as I was working through revising the essays. All in all, I feel much more confident in my skills as a proofreader, but I still feel a little unprepared to launch my own business.

I enjoyed the course; it was not hard for me to pass the test, as I am a longtime English teacher and natural error-spotter. The course helped me learn the distinction between editing and proofreading, coaching me not to correct things that are not officially wrong, no matter how awkward they might be. Having said that, I could have used more coaching in the starting-my-business aspect, rather than the proofreading aspect. I have created a website and joined the recommended lists, but I have no idea how to get actual work. Luckily, I have a full-time job, so being paid for proofreading was not my immediate goal. Will this help me when I am ready to retire and want to be able to work from anywhere? I'm not sure. It has gotten me started, at least, and I'm grateful for that. I would advise people to wait for sales, as they seem to happen frequently. I took advantage of a 60%-off discount, and perhaps that has sweetened the sting of the course not really changing my life as much as I would have liked.
