We had a fantastic trip! Starting at the resort with its beautiful house reef was a great choice by Guillaume and a perfect beginning.
Guillaume was warm, attentive, and very knowledgeable about marine life. On Sea Serpent Excellence, the whole crew was friendly, cheerful, and helpful. Mustafa and Amid did a great job guiding the English-speaking group in the water.
Seeing dugongs and dolphins was unforgettable, and the photos Guillaume shared were a wonderful bonus.
A great Red Sea experience with a really lovely team — we would happily go again!

Thank you so much for your lovely review! I was fun searching together for some of the rare (and difficult to find!) marine life we were hoping to see. Thank you as well for sharing your beautiful photos and videos with us; they’re wonderful memories of the trip. I hope our paths cross again on another snorkeling adventure! Guillaume

This was a mixed experience.
This was a mixed experience.
The plus points:
1) Having so many snorkelling opportunities! As a group we wanted to be in the water early and after the first day we were usually in the sea by 7.30am. This was easily the best snorkel of the day in terms of creatures and visibility. Some snorkels, especially in the afternoons, were a little dull, but the sheer number of snorkels meant we saw a lot overall.
2) The food was terrific and abundant, more than I expected from a ship. A whole roast turkey was unveiled on the last night!
3) The crew were very friendly and helpful.
4) The hotel where we stayed for the first night had a great house reef with all the usual Red Sea fish, including a scorpion fish.
5) Guillaume was a genial host and gave an excellent short lecture on Red Sea fish.
Less happy moments:
1) The guiding was not quite what I expected from other trips. In essence there was little difference between a guided group and an unguided one. Guides carried a safety ring which hampered them spotting and pointing out sea creatures. (Incidentally Guillaume was good at this, but he was one person amongst 24.) The groups became confused and spread out and appeared difficult to manage.
2) The crew were well prepared for sickness and diarrhoea with suitable Egyptian products - and they were necessary. I cannot say how many people were affected, but be alert to the possibility and take what's on offer. It works.
Overall I am not convinced that a liveaboard is a better experience than a land-based holiday - but views differ! The Makadi Bay house reefs (we returned to a different hotel after the trip) were as good as any coral we explored from the boat, although without dolphins obviously. The movement of the boat when it was choppy and windy was off-putting, and of course there was not much space. But if you like boats, this trip would not disappoint.

A great trip
A great trip to the Red Sea aboard Sea Serpent Excellence. Ten days travelling up and down the coast from Marsa Alam and snorkelling maybe 40 times in total. FORTY! Reefs, fish, dugong, turtles and dolphins. The lot!
Response from Planet Snorkeling ExpeditionsOct 3, 2026
Thank you so much for your review, Paul! Forty snorkels in ten days - intensive snorkeling, just the way we like our trips to be! It was great having you with us, and we hope to snorkel together again somewhere else in the world! Guillaume

An absolutely exceptional Red Sea…
An absolutely exceptional Red Sea snorkeling expedition! 🤿
Simply magical moments in the heart of an incredible marine environment. Swimming with dolphins, crossing a shark, having the chance to observe a dugong in its natural habitat and evolving among fish with extraordinary colours… 🐬🦈🐠
Unforgettable encounters, sometimes just a few metres away, that give all its dimension to this adventure.
A magnificent Red Sea, exceptional biodiversity, breathtaking underwater landscapes and a friendly atmosphere throughout the expedition.
A huge thank you to GUILLAUME and the whole team for this experience, their support and their passion. 🙏

I didn’t love this trip
I didn’t love this trip. The snorkeling was ok at best. Not great visibility or diversity of undersea life. The guides on Sea Serpent did nothing to promote safety or point out sea life. They just seemed to be there to hold a life preserver if anyone needed it. At one point the boat started to pull away when two snorkelers were still in the water.
Response from Planet Snorkeling ExpeditionsSep 17, 2026
Thank you, Maxine, for taking the time to share your experience. We’re sorry to hear that your Red Sea trip didn’t meet your expectations.
While the Red Sea is known for excellent visibility, conditions can occasionally be less favorable, particularly at low tide or during periods of wind. We always aim to choose the best sites and timing, but on a liveaboard, offering up to four snorkeling sessions a day sometimes means adapting to the conditions at the time.
Regarding marine life, the trip delivered close to the full range of encounters we can reasonably hope for on this itinerary, including dugong, pods of spinner and bottlenose dolphins, green sea turtles, several species of stingrays, guitarfish, crocodilefish, six species of scorpionfish/lionfish, giant morays and a great diversity of reef fish, as well as less commonly seen species such as the Red Sea walkman, halfmoon angelfish and eagle rays. Some encounters can, of course, be brief -as was the case with the eagle rays- meaning that not every participant will necessarily see every species spotted during the trip.
Safety is our top priority on every trip. All snorkeling sessions are supervised in the water by our snorkeling guides, supported by two dinghies that continuously monitor the group and assist whenever needed, while additional watch is maintained from the mother ship.
We’re always looking for ways to make our trips even better, and we truly appreciate your comments, which we’ll keep in mind as we continue improving the experience for our future guests. We’re sorry again that this trip wasn’t quite the experience you had hoped for. Guillaume
