Thought I was terrible at learning…
Thought I was terrible at learning languages before Pimsleur. But "learn while you drive" marketing campaign is a little misleading. To get the most out of it, you need real focus and a clear mind. If you're distracted, you're mostly spinning your wheels. That said... Pimsleur absolutely delivers results.

Hi Walden, Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re especially glad to hear that Pimsleur helped change how you see yourself as a language learner and that the method is delivering results for you. We hear from many learners who felt stuck before Pimsleur, and often the issue is not the learner; it is a mismatch between the learner’s goal and the method being used. If the goal is to speak and understand a language in real conversations, it helps to use a method designed specifically to build speaking and listening skills, rather than one focused primarily on reading, writing, grammar analysis, or vocabulary recognition. You also make a fair point about focus. Many Pimsleur learners tell us they love using the lessons while driving or commuting because the format is hands-free and fits naturally into daily routines. At the same time, Pimsleur is not meant to be passive background listening. The core lessons work best when learners can safely give their attention to the lesson, actively listen, recall, and respond out loud. That Active Participation is what helps build real speaking and listening skills over time. Thank you for learning with Pimsleur and for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We wish you continued success on your language-learning journey! Best, The Pimsleur Team
