Many learners like the flexibility of using Voice Coach for extra practice because it lets them revisit lesson material while also getting built-in feedback on their spoken responses and pronunciation. We’re glad to hear that Pimsleur feels like a strong fit for the way you like to learn and that the audio format makes it easy to practice while doing other things. We’re sorry, though, that some of the early topics have not felt useful to you. One important thing to know about the Pimsleur Method™ is that the early lessons are not only about the literal topic being discussed. They are designed to teach sentence structures, question forms, pronunciation, listening comprehension, and response patterns that learners can later adapt to many real-life situations. The goal is to help you start producing speech independently, not simply memorize a fixed list of phrases. That said, many of the early French lessons do focus on practical everyday situations, including asking for directions, ordering food and drinks, scheduling meals, asking prices, paying for purchases, using cash or cards, and introducing yourself. As the course continues, the topics expand significantly into more complex everyday conversation, including business travel, shopping and negotiating prices, buying or renovating a home, calling a doctor, handling lost items, discussing relationships and family life, expressing emotions and preferences, planning vacations, and navigating unexpected situations like strikes or witnessing a crime. We appreciate your feedback because practical conversation is exactly what Pimsleur is meant to support. We do want to clarify that the Pimsleur English for Spanish Speakers course includes 90 core speaking lessons and 60 reading lessons, and we also just released a dozen new Mini Lessons at the beginning of August to provide additional support and practice. Course expansion is something we continue to evaluate, and learner interest helps us make those decisions.
