I thought I could just enter the key but instead I needed to call a number and then have them text me a 6x8 digit code that I had to enter manually. This should be explained on the site. What happens when I need to re-install and the process has expired or the company no longer exists? If I would have known this was the method to activate the software I would have gone somewhere else.

This place is selling activation codes that have already been used before. If anyone tells you that you need to call microsoft to activate the code, it's been used already. Save yourself the headache and buy a genuine microsoft OEM dvd with code from ebay. They can be had for under $40 and always work.
