Severe skin reaction — please be aware if you have sensitive skin
I’m sharing this review not because I believe this product will cause the same reaction in everyone, but because what happened to me was severe enough that I think other consumers should be aware. I used the older bottle version of PCA Skin Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF. After using it, my face and neck became extremely red, intensely itchy, and hot to the touch. The reaction was particularly bad around my neck and neck folds. I have photos documenting the redness. I initially took Allegra, which normally works well for me for allergic-type itching, but even many hours later I was still extremely uncomfortable. I spoke with a nurse about the reaction and ultimately took Benadryl as directed. I also had to use repeated cold compresses and wash the product from my skin. Thankfully, I did not experience difficulty breathing, wheezing, throat or facial swelling, or other symptoms of anaphylaxis. This was a severe skin reaction. I understand that allergic and sensitivity reactions are individual, and a product that causes a reaction in one person may be perfectly fine for someone else. I’m not claiming to know which ingredient caused mine. However, anyone who still owns the older formulation, particularly someone with sensitive or reactive skin, may want to be cautious and consider patch testing before applying it over the entire face and neck. This was an extremely uncomfortable and frightening experience for me, and I will not use my bottle again.
