Be very ashamed Optum our in the wrong business in giving quality care
I'm a 65-year-old woman who recently contacted covid. Because of my high risk medical issues, my doctor told me to please call him immediately so that he can prescribe a treatment for covid. However, I cannot take plavaxid because of some kidney issues. My Doctor said he had another alternative. I sent a message to his office as I usually do and I receive no response in 24 hours. That was unusual. So then I called the office and after many times I'm trying to get through to speak to his assistant. I finally asked for a nurse. No nurse was available so I said fine. They can call me back. This was at 9:00 a.m. in the morning by 4:00 it's the afternoon. I had not received any response and because I have asthma my congestion required me to start using a nebulizer. I waited 20 minutes to finally speak to a nurse and all I was told is well keep on using the nebulizer and then she asked me it was feeling dizzy or short of breath. I said I was feeling short of breath so of course I was feeling dizzy. That is why I was using a nebulyzer. I was calling again because my doctor said he had another treatment for me when I got covid and to please make sure I take it. She then told me that I've already been prescribed cough drops or cough pills. So if I feel any worse go to urgent care boom I hung up by the next day I was feeling much worse and I was starting to use my nebulizer every 8 hours because my oximeter was saying my oxygen was down to 296. I tried calling the doctor's office because my doctor's nurse had given me a call and I tried calling her back. I was on hold for one half hour then hung up on. Then I tried calling the nurse back. I could not get anybody on the line so I hung up. I continued doing my nebulizer at this point I was hoping to just come into the office and get some oxygen and a prescription for prednisone. When I felt like this this would work for me. However, I could not get anybody but felt like I was feeling much worse. So by 10:00 that evening I decided that we go to urgent care. When I got to urgent care, I realize the urgent Care was now closed at night. When they initially told me to go to the urgent Care. They should have told me that it was no longer open at night. I had to go to ER hospital instead however at the ER. By this time my oxygen level was down to 90% and for any medical professional. You know this is very dangerous. I went into the ER after being searched by security and somebody was at the front windows. I went to the second window to tell them what was going on with me. They said okay. Go stand behind the person who's in the front window and they will have to help you. Mind you I'm having trouble breathing. My mind is very confused now and I'm feeling dizzy. I see no signs that this person is anywhere near being done checking in I have my husband pick me up from Huntington ER and take to Glendale Adventist. Which is two cities away and I'm still having trouble breathing within 5 of arriving at Glendale Adventist I spoke with a the nurse within 20 minutes of having to ride I was starting tests and blood tests and x-rays. I was there all night and that was okay because I had at least been taken care of. I still was having some trouble breathing but it had improved a little bit. Because I was taking So many nebulizer treatments to try and breathe. I have become dehydrated and my kidneys were failing. When I spoke to the eye doctor I said all I was really hoping was to get some oxygen and some prednisone and I know I will and be improved. But because of my kidneys I didn't want to release me and they had to hospitalize me. At least I got the oxygen. The oxygen was very helpful in getting me over the hump. The kidneys were simple. Plenty of fluid. So they gave me IV fluids and I was fine. They gave me oxygen and by the second day of me being home I'm feeling way better. Why am I telling this whole story? Because if anybody would have taken the time at often to actually really talk to me, they would look at my file and see that whenever I am in any kind of asthmatic distress. My doctor gives me prednisone and has given me oxygen and I am. Optum, am high risk. I should never have had to go to the hospital and be hospitalized. It should never have come down to where my kidneys started to fail because I was trying to get air by utilizing my nebulizer. A nurse or any qualified person should have listened to me. Not one time gif I feel like a person. I had been A Healthcare Partner for over Thirty years. I have had the same primary care doctor for almost 20 years. That is how 8 have been able to have better health than either of my parents as they aged. I am not confident of this anymore
