Disappointment and outrage come to mind…
Disappointment and outrage come to mind first…. As a first time homebuyer nearly two decades ago we trusted Advanced Mortgage when they recommended this company after researching a small handful of others. Our insurance was paid through escrow on our mortgage. Every year our escrow was short and monthly payments increased. We didn’t think much of it with inflation and all…. Until I was discussing our rates with a friend and realizing that we were paying TRIPLE the average insurance rate with this company. Roughly an additional $5000 a year over almost twenty years. My home would be nearly paid off by now if that had gone towards m my principal. Yes, my oversight and poor life choice for putting my trust in two “small” local businesses. We’re insured with USAA now for a third of the cost with the same policy limits. They moral of my story, do your homework, review your statements and a regular basis and compare your policy to others. It’s criminal to take advantage of first time buyers (or any buyers) like this. Spend your hard earned money on home improvement, education, or leisure but don’t use it to line the pockets of Northern Neck Insurance..

Hello, This is Nancy with Northern Neck Insurance. To better understand your situation, could you share the name of the independent insurance agent who services your policy? Without access to your name, policy history and specific account details, I cannot comment on every aspect of your experience, but I can provide some general information that may be helpful while respecting your anonymity. Insurance carriers are required to provide policy documents for each renewal period so policyholders can review changes to coverage, rates, limits, and deductibles. But it's beyond legal obligation at Northern Neck Insurance. We value clear communication and transparency because we want our members to understand their coverage and know how to protect their homes and property. We also encourage an annual review with a local independent insurance agent. Independent agents can assess your coverage and help you compare insurance products and rates from multiple carriers. Unlike direct writers such as USAA, Northern Neck Insurance works with independent agents because we believe customers benefit from personalized advice and a broader range of options. Independent agents are not captive to one carrier and can recommend coverage based on your individual needs. Regarding your mortgage payment, the principal portion is separate from the amounts held in escrow. Escrow may include funds for property taxes and homeowners insurance and, when applicable, private mortgage insurance (PMI). All of these costs can change over the life of a loan, which may affect your total monthly payment and escrow balance. We also have a helpful article explaining how homeowners insurance can affect an escrow account: https://www.nnins.com/blog/how-does-home-insurance-affect-my-escrow-account We’re glad USAA is the right fit for you and at the same time would appreciate the opportunity to understand where the breakdown in communication happened for you. We do genuinely care about your experience and want to learn how we might better keep our policyholders well-informed. In a highly digital world with paperless delivery and inundation of content, it is so important to take the time to review your insurance policy regularly. Regardless of your carrier, we recommend reviewing your coverage annually with a local independent agent to make sure your limits, deductibles, endorsements, and rate continue to reflect your needs as life changes. We wish the best for you.
