The image on the website and what was actually delivered was very different and disappointing! It was a bottle of wine, 2 glasses, a wooden board and chocolates with a gift card!
The wine was not the one I chose, the board totally different, the gift card was a sheet of paper and the glasses were basic not anything like advertised!
I did question the items delivered with the company (sent pictures) and they stated they could substitute any of the order with something similar!
Will definitely NOT be using this company again! ☹️

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the items you received did not meet your expectations or match the product presentation you anticipated. We understand how disappointing that can be, especially when the gift is intended to make a special impression.
Our products may occasionally require substitutions based on availability, but these are intended to be similar in type, quality, and value to the original selections. We also understand your concerns regarding the wine, glasses, serving board, and gift card presentation.
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and would be happy to review the order details and the items that were delivered. Please feel free to reach out to our customer service team so we can look into this further.

You will get something completely different than what you ordered
I recently placed an order with New York City Baskets and was extremely disappointed with what was ultimately delivered to my friend.
I purchased the Green Tea Break Set based on the advertised selection, which featured what appeared to be a thoughtfully curated assortment of quality items, including classy chocolates, dried fruit, jam, and matcha tea cookies. Unfortunately, the basket that arrived contained items that were significantly different from what was advertised — including inexpensive wafers, Smucker’s jam, and a package of dried berries labeled as “salad topping.”
I completely understand that certain items may occasionally be unavailable due to inventory or seasonal limitations, and I would have been reasonable about comparable substitutions. However, the replacement items provided were not remotely comparable to the products I purchased in terms of either quality or presentation. The substitutions made the gift feel substantially cheaper than what was represented on your website.
More concerning, I feel that the quality of the items was significantly overstated in the product description, which influenced my decision to purchase this particular gift. I would not have placed the order had I known the basket would contain these types of products.
This was intended to be a thoughtful gift for a friend, so it was particularly disappointing to have something delivered that did not resemble what I believed I was purchasing.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback, Kelly. We’re sorry to hear that the substitutions in your Green Tea Break Set did not meet your expectations.
We do want to clarify that substitutions may be necessary when specific items are unavailable due to inventory or seasonal limitations. Our substitution policy is intended to maintain the overall value, theme, and design of the original order, rather than guaranteeing that every specific brand or item shown will be included.
We understand your concern that some of the replacement items did not appear comparable in quality or presentation. Your feedback is important to us, and we will review the substitutions made on this order to ensure they were consistent with our substitution standards.
We sincerely regret that the final gift did not reflect the experience you expected, and we appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention.

Package broken, bottles broken, no total reimbursment
I ordered 1 package with 2 bottles and some chocolates.
The package arrived totally destroyed, with everything broken inside.
There were no "fragile" sticker on the box.
NY City Baskets did not want to refund me for the entire order, since on the pictures there is only 1 bottle that we can see.
It was a gift for one of my customer, and obvisouly when you open a smashed box, with liquid and broken glass everywhere, your first reflex is to throw everything at the bin, and not make a photo reportage.
So I was only refunded for 32$ while my entire order was 150$.
And my customer was very disapointed.
Very bad experience, and NY Cuty Gifts does not take any responsibility, while this is their responsibility to put "fragile" stickers on boxes, and ensure to work with a serious delivery company.
Not serious at all, very bad customer experience, very bad customer satisfaction. I will never order on that website again.

We appreciate your feedback and regret that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

Very disappointing experience.
Update 9/22:
They say they would appreciate the opportunity to get more details yet they did not provide me with a way to contact them in their reply. The sender is going to be reaching out to customer service for some type of compensation at this point given the poor experience.
~~~~~~~~~~
I received a get-well gift basket from this company, and while the gesture from the sender was thoughtful, the execution was poor.
The basket did not arrive until September 21, more than a week after the sender told me it had been ordered. She paid for UPS Next Day Air, yet the package I received was shipped via USPS Ground Advantage. Paying for expedited shipping and receiving a much slower ground service is unacceptable.
The box was also not sealed particularly well and arrived partially open, although the contents were protected with packing peanuts and nothing inside was damaged.
The biggest issue was the cheese. It was clearly labeled “Keep Refrigerated,” but it was shipped with no ice pack, insulation, or any other temperature control. Given how long the package was in transit, I am absolutely not eating it and had to throw it away. Shipping refrigerated food this way is a serious food-safety concern.
The wine bottle was visibly dirty and covered with grime. The decorative bow was loose in the box instead of attached to the basket, and the gift note was crumpled.
The assortment was also strange for a get-well gift: wine, olive oil, rice vinegar, maple syrup, pasta, apples, cheese, a candle that smells like dryer sheets, cheese knives, a cutting board, and a Toblerone bar.
I feel bad for the person who sent it because she was trying to do something kind and apparently paid extra for fast shipping. The quality, presentation, food handling, and shipping service did not match what she believed she was purchasing. I would not use this company.
We take concerns regarding shipping, product handling, and presentation seriously. We would appreciate the opportunity to review the order details and shipping history to better understand what occurred and address the concerns raised regarding the delivery service, packaging, and items received.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration caused.
If the refund for the shipping fee and any damaged or affected items has not yet been processed, please reach out to our customer service team so we can review the order and assist you further. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
I received an orchid from New York City…
I received an orchid from New York City Baskets as a gift, and I am highly disappointed with it. The plant was incredibly low quality and in very poor condition.( if you know Orchid the plant should NOT be packed with water) and just two weeks later the plant is basically dead - I didn't give it water in the past two weeks because it was so wet and moist - after seeing one flower after flower falling I contacted customer service and to make matters worse the customer service was extremely poor when trying to address the issue. The team ( Charlie to be excat )was unhelpful, dismissive, and completely lacked care. While the rest of the items(chocolate ) in the gift package were fine, the terrible quality of the orchid and the frustrating customer service completely ruined the experience. I would not recommend ordering from here.dotn waist your time or your money - you can get a better quality orchid from local Trader Joes for a fracture of the price and in better quality. I DONT recommend this place at all!!!!!
Response from newyorkcitybaskets.comSep 8, 2026
Hi Eti, we’re very sorry to hear about your experience with the orchid and understand how disappointing it must have been to see the plant decline so quickly.
We sincerely apologize that the orchid arrived in a condition that did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns regarding the moisture level, the flowers falling, and the overall quality and condition of the plant. We’re also sorry to hear that your interaction with our customer service team left you feeling dismissed and unsupported. That is not the level of care we want our customers to experience when reaching out for assistance.
We appreciate you taking the time to share these detailed concerns. Your feedback regarding the orchid’s condition, packaging, care expectations, and customer service has been shared internally for further review.
We’re glad to hear that the chocolates included in the gift were received well, but we understand that this does not make up for the issues you experienced with the orchid and the support you received.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and again, we sincerely apologize for the disappointment.
BEWARE- Deceptive BAIT - AND - SWITCH replaced a custom luxury gift with cheap grocery store swaps
I am completely frustrated and mortified by the poor quality and cheap grocery store look of what was actually sent versus what I ordered (Review doesn’t allow me to attach a pic).
I painstakingly customized this basket from scratch for my aunt, who is currently housebound recovering from major surgery.
I spent over two and a half hours going through their premade baskets, specifically looking at mid-tier wine and chocolate setups like the "Chocolate Overload Gift Set" priced at $122.99, just to get a feel for the presentation aesthetic and ensure I replicate the high quality. Since none of the premade options fit her limited, specific food preferences, I decided to choose the 100% customized option. I selected high-end dark chocolates and specific artisan brands like BOSS, Laitière, and Bruges to create a classy, coordinated black-and-red theme with a high-quality look and vibe.
I even reached out to their team via chat immediately following placing the order to guard against issues. I requested a photo prior to shipment but was told it wasn’t possible because it would slow down their process. However, I was assured via, "Our production team works diligently to ensure that all orders are completed accurately and efficiently." I explicitly told the representative, "If an exact item that was ordered is not available, please do not substitute - just provide a refund." I was assured this note was added to production (luckily I saved a screenshot of this part of my chat with customer service).
Instead, the packing team completely ignored my instructions and executed a massive bait-and-switch that entirely ruined the gesture I carefully planned for her.
First, the chocolate is a total failure. I ordered five premium dark chocolate items because my aunt ONLY eats dark chocolate. They sent mostly milk and white chocolate items, including yellow, different blues and a bright pink 8 oz. bag of Trü Frü milk chocolate raspberries (I ordered boss dark chocolate covered cherries). It is incredibly frustrating to send a get-well basket to someone recovering from surgery which directly contradicted the dietary restrictions I explicitly provided which is precisely why I didn’t order any milk or white chocolate. I’d be so sad looking at chocolates I can’t eat :-(
Second, they completely destroyed the elegant presentation I paid for. I selected sleek, monochrome luxury brands, and the team replaced them with loud, mismatched supermarket graphics. I paid a premium for boutique brands, but they packed it with cheap grocery staples I could buy down the street for a fraction of the price, including Smucker's strawberry jam, Blue Diamond thin-dipped almonds, Walmart crackers, Wonderful pistachios and Voortman bakery cookies. Not to mention, they swapped out specific types of cookies and bark for completely different items.
Third, the hardware is a complete joke. The website shows a $62.99 "Savory Bites & Sweets Gift Tray" using a wide, flat wooden tray that cleanly displays ten full-sized items side-by-side. Since a breakdown of the tray dimensions was not available, I went through the premade baskets and the savory bites basket was the only flat wooden tray displayed to confirm my selected items would fit, which it should have from their website photo. What my aunt received is a tiny, miniature decorative box that was physically impossible to arrange properly. The container which is NOT the up-charged "rustic wooden tray" I paid for is completely swallowed up and hidden out of view beneath a jar of Smucker's jam and an 8 oz. bag of Trü Frü. To top it off, they swapped out her preferred Robert Mondavi wine I selected for a bottle of Barefoot Rosé, which I explicitly called out in the order notes and told the chat support representative and she assured it was added to the notes.
Out of the entire custom build, only the upgraded Josh Cellars wine and the cheese type (which was ambiguous when ordering, as only a photo of actual cheese was available) match what I actually paid for. Over 85% of this basket consists of cheap, unauthorized grocery store swaps that I explicitly forbade in writing, (which BTW supersedes their so called substitution policy that I didn’t even see throughout my order). This business model feels entirely predatory, relying on the assumption that senders will never actually see what the recipient receives.
The company deliberately ignored my pre-shipment instructions, ignored me in the support chat for over an hour after the basket was delivered, and delivered a cheap grocery run instead of a custom $200 gift.
Hi, we’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how disappointing and upsetting this must have been, especially given the time and care you put into creating a personalized gift for your aunt.
We sincerely apologize that the items and presentation you received did not meet the expectations you had when placing your custom order. We understand your concerns regarding the dark chocolate selections, specific brands, wine, container, and overall appearance of the basket. We especially recognize how frustrating it would be to receive substitutions that did not align with the preferences and instructions you provided.
While substitutions may sometimes be necessary due to product availability, supplier limitations, or regional restrictions, our goal is always for any replacement to maintain the overall quality, value, and style of the original selection. We understand from your feedback that you feel this standard was not met in this case.
We also regret the difficulty you experienced when trying to reach our support team after delivery. We appreciate you taking the time to provide such detailed feedback, including your concerns regarding the customization process and the instructions you provided before shipment.
Your comments regarding the substitutions, product selection, presentation, container, wine, and customer service have been shared internally for further review. We take this feedback seriously and will use it to help improve our fulfillment and customer-service processes.
Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention, and again, we’re sorry that this gift did not provide the experience you intended.
Horrible
Horrible. We ordered a wine and snacks basket for my sister's birthday. Nothing artisan, about what they sent, it was grocery store brands all the way. Instead of bruschetta, they sent Vlasic pickle relish. They replaced strawberry rhubarb jam with Smuckers strawberry preserves. Cupcake wine ($10 in stores) was replaced with Woodbridge $5.39 crap, and so on. No phone number on their site, and the # we found on their Facebook page is not in service. Their 'web chat' goes to email, which were ignored. After all this, the had the nerve to send an auto 'how did we do?' email. How did you do?? You SUCK. Save your money folks -- you'll get better service from Door Dash.
FALSE ADVERTISING
FALSE ADVERTISING, ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY
I ordered from NewYorkCityBaskets expecting a premium, reliable experience. What I got was disappointment at every level, and excuses instead of solutions.
Here's what went wrong:
MISLEADING DELIVERY CLAIMS. The website proudly advertises delivery by "local NY drivers," yet when my order didn't arrive on the requested date, I was told to blame the weather and USPS. USPS. So which is it? You cannot market local, personal delivery and then hide behind a national postal service when things go wrong. That is false advertising, plain and simple.
WRONG DELIVERY DATE. The entire point of ordering a gift basket is timing. Mine did not arrive when I needed it to. No apology, no accountability, just deflection.
UNACCEPTABLE PRODUCT QUALITY. The basket arrived with an open bag, melted chocolate, and the wrong fruit. This is not a minor issue, this is a gift. Presentation and accuracy are the entire product. Receiving something that looks like it was thrown together and left in the sun is embarrassing to give and insulting to receive.
DISMISSIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE. When I expressed my disappointment, I was met with excuses and justifications rather than genuine concern or a real attempt to make things right. A company that responds to valid complaints with defensiveness does not deserve your business.
Save your money and find a company that actually delivers, literally and figuratively.
Response from newyorkcitybaskets.comJun 3, 2026
We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration regarding the delivery timing, product condition, and overall service experience.
We sincerely apologize that your order did not arrive as expected and that the final presentation did not meet the standards you anticipated when placing your order. We understand how important timing and presentation are when sending a gift, and we regret that this experience caused disappointment.
Regarding delivery methods, we would like to clarify that delivery methods may vary depending on the destination area, product type, and service availability. While some orders may be fulfilled through local delivery networks, others may be shipped using third-party courier partners or postal carriers depending on logistics requirements. We understand your concern that these expectations may not have been communicated clearly enough.
We also apologize for the condition of the items received, including the concerns regarding packaging, melted products, and substitutions. While factors such as transit times and weather conditions can sometimes impact temperature-sensitive items, we understand this does not lessen the disappointment when a gift arrives below expectations.
We regret that our communication left you feeling unheard, and your feedback regarding delivery expectations, product quality, and customer service has been shared internally for further review as we continue working to improve the customer experience.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
