first rate service
I know I am certainly not alone in highly recommending this amazing service. I'm an Emmy-winning producer/composer used to working in the studio, etc. But the convenience and professionalism and organization of this service is truly second to none; so much so that I've definitely been using their Unlimited Plan as much as possible and have now worked with a number of their artists, from cello, to drums, to guitar, to accordion (!), to acoustic bass. In each case, the efficient 35 min sessions (plus prep time before they log in) have been professional, friendly, collaborative, and fun. If you're able to organize nice lead sheets and have a good idea of what you want, then you will be especially ready to take maximum advantage. However, they also offer arranging and other services I haven't tried if you need it, which I am sure are also extremely high level and well done. In addition to being an Unlimited member, I also recently paid them a larger flat fee to have their 30 member strong Czech National Symphony Orchestra record a 5 min piece of mine over one hour for an upcoming recording, with a bit extra paid to have video documentation (2 moving cameras and 1 stationary). Again, provided you provide a professional score, the session runs efficiently and expertly and the recording quality is top notch (they charge extra if you need mixing help, but there is a mastering engineer included in the separate "Unlimited"). On the whole, I am extremely excited about this service, and also heartened to read that the pay to the actual musicians is actually considered respectable (including full-time salaries commensurate with the local costs of living, etc.). The only small caveat some users might experience is that in certain cases there's a decent lead time before you can book someone if you want a specific instrument. Because I've been more flexible about what to record next, etc., however, I've managed to squeeze in an average of 8 sessions/month (which works out to $25/session). So even if it's perhaps not "truly" unlimited, that's quibbling to me as it's still quite reasonable. Having said that, I do encourage them to offer more classical musicians to their Unlimited Roster, and (as they expand) perhaps more availability (though I'm happy that at least some of the times - despite the time difference in many cases - are reasonable - late morning, early to late afternoon ET, etc). But I'm sure they'll continue to change/balance these things as they inevitably - and deservedly - continue to expand. And as a person of color I also wouldn't mind seeing some African- or African American talent represented among their roster (but again their existing talent is top-notch).
