As a huge fan of the Motion Beasts 1 course, I was very happy when part 2 came out, and I bought it right away. However I was extremely disappointed – lessons are poorly prepared, and devoid of useful knowledge. Everything is based on MDS plugins, so you can’t really do anything if you don’t want to buy them later. I feel that instead of an animation course I bought advertisement for MDS plugins, and I basically didn’t learn anything new.

Great Course
I took the Motion Beast 2 course from Motion Design School.
As a self-learned Motion Designer, this course helped me learn a more organised way to do a process in animation.
How to keep the file simple, without creating multiple layers and how can the default effects inside After Effects can be used effectively.
The plugins from the school are great as well, which makes work easier and saves a lot of time in the animation process.
The reviews for each lesson are something to learn more and being inside the community through Discord and seeing fellow people's works and getting answers for all the queries, overall the course is great if you are intermediate in after effects.

I have bought around ten of the Motion…
I have bought around ten of the Motion Design School courses which shows how much I like the material. The courses range from quick and introductory to comprehensive. I think my favorite course has been the one on Expressions because of my coding background. Motion Beast, which is very comprehensive, is a gold mine of material. Frame by Frame Ninja covers frame by frame methods obviously and covers lots of secrets of making animations look impressive.
The courses could be improved by supplying some kind of printed index that can be quickly skimmed. Videos are great but if I am trying to track down where some piece of information is covered, I need a quick way of finding this information. Each course has an index but I ended up taking a series of screen shots and organizing these, because the visuals help me remember what was covered quickly.
I also like the offerings of Courses, which cover things thoroughly, and shorter Master Classes which move at a very fast pace and focus on a certain topic.
I also like not feeling pressured to sign up for a big expensive curriculum, I can work through the material on my own terms.
One down side I've noticed is that a fair chunk of the material seems to boil down to various forms of a walk cycle, or random objects exploding and falling through space, bouncing around and coming together, which can get a little stale. Of course there is a lot of other fresh material to balance this.

Love the school…. but!
Love the school….. but It would be great if they responded more to questions asked like for 3D Generalist. Motion Pro was spot on. If I asked a question I always got an answer or response in Motion Pro. But for 3D Generalist often times nothing. Also, it would be great if they created follow-up course like for deeper dives into 3D character creation at the intermediate, and advanced level.

Incredible AE courses
The After Effects courses on this site are great! I completed Motion Beast, Motion Secrets, Motion Pro, 2D to 3D with C4D, and Cinema4D journey. A designer that completes the first 3 (Beast, Secrets, Pro) will become a pro AE motion designer. Beast is an intro class for designers who are masters of illustrator or photoshop, Secrets teaches animation principles, and Pro is a capstone class that overviews pro workflow, automations, and 3D tools. And MDS often does 50% off sales—so you can get all 3 for an incredible price, essentially the same as a single discounted School of Motion course. Of course, they are self paced, but if you like self paced learning then MDS is a no brainer.
That being said there are courses on MDS that less strong. Generally, since MDS’s polish and production values increased a lot over the last couple years, some of their earlier courses don’t have the same level of video quality. Also, C4D journey is now a bit outdated since C4D has since changed both in UI and in capabilities. But that is also due to the nature of being a relatively new online school. If you choose the courses I listed I think you can’t go wrong when it comes to After Effects.
