A blind date factory
When I signed up for a series of six matches, I was impressed with the thoroughness of my intake interview. I wasn't talking with my "personal matchmaker" but with a slick saleswoman who knew the right buttons and phrases to push. After that, there were no more personal meetings, not even a zoom call. My first matchmaker left the company within a few months. She was replaced by another one, who also didn't stick around very long. This should have been a red flag! I was never offered a chance to meet either women, so they're all relying on notes. A third matchmaker was a young man. We only communicated by phone and the feedback forms the company requests after each date. Supposedly this is their method for refining a client's desires and wishes in a match. Not one of the six really came close to what I was hoping to meet. My guess is that they screen for age, area code and height. The rest is pure luck. In my area, and age group, there are many more single women than men. I was trusting my matchmakers to be more selective than I, with the added advantage that they had a much larger pool to select from. That turned out not to be the case. The phone calls I had with the last two matchmakers were uncomfortable, as I was blamed for not provding feedback. Which I did. I've delt with other matchmakers as I was on their database. These others are more respectful, thorough and provide more hands on service than The Matchmaking Company. All these others provide at least one photo of their proposed date, allowing one to accept or not. I'm not one to go on a total blind date. My time is worth more to me than that. The Matchmaking Company's policy is no photos. They operate on a hope and a prayer methodology. In sum, three matchmakers in two years. No photos. No meetings. No zoom. Little internal communcations between matchmakers. Most dates were way off the mark. Argumentative conversations. Passing the blame back to the client. High fees. If you feel you need the services of a professional matchmaker, there are other options out there. Avoid this one!

Norm, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry that your experience ultimately left you disappointed, and we understand that having changes in your Matchmaker during your membership may have been frustrating. We would, however, like to provide some additional context. Each introduction presented to you was selected within the preferences and parameters you established with us. Your preference to remain within approximately 20–25 miles of your location significantly narrowed the available pool, particularly when combined with your other preferences. Our process goes well beyond simply matching clients based on age, location, or height. We consider the information gathered during enrollment, relationship goals, compatibility, ongoing communication, and feedback from previous introductions. We also feel it’s important to note that your own feedback reflected positive experiences with several of your introductions. You indicated that you enjoyed meeting multiple women, and in some instances chose to see them more than once. While those connections ultimately did not develop into the relationship you were seeking, we don’t believe it’s entirely fair to characterize all of the introductions as being “way off the mark.” Our photo-free approach is intentional and is communicated as part of our service. We understand that it may not be everyone’s preferred way of dating, just as we understand that compatibility on paper cannot guarantee chemistry or mutual interest once two people meet. We remain confident that your introductions were made thoughtfully, within the parameters you provided, and with consideration for the availability of mutually compatible clients in your area. While we’re disappointed that the process did not ultimately produce the outcome you hoped for, we appreciate your feedback and sincerely wish you the very best moving forward.
