I recently installed a liftmaster 2220l in a rental property of mine with a shared garage, at the recommendation of my garage door service company. The opener would probably be a great unit for a single family owner occupied home, but I am disappointed by the liftmaster programming for a rental application. When I had my first tenant change over, I discovered I need to clear all remotes, codes, and connected apps by factory resetting the opener just to remove a code from the keypad and tenants access to the opener. This means I needed to coordinate the programming of all the other tenants’ remotes at that time too. That seems so unnecessary. I also am disappointed that, as the landlord, I have no access to control the WiFi connection setup or control camera access. The tenants can easily override the programming and there is no way to set it up so they can’t. It seems like this is a big oversight to anyone considering this opener for a non-owner-occupied property. I tried to share my feedback with liftmaster so they can work on developing a better more adaptable product but couldn’t find a way to contact them with feedback so I am leaving this review to hopefully help others who may be in this situation and possibly let them know. Thank you.

Liftmaster Model 81600 MC
Liftmaster Model 81600 MC. Upgrading my review to 3 stars from 1 star while I wait to see if the replacement unit addresses the original problem.
The original issue:
This model was plagued with sporadic episodes of failing to close when pressing the wall mounted wired button. It did not happen on an open request nor did there appear to be any issue with the safety light beams since the door closes without fail when using a remote (non-wired) control. Replacement of the wall button, logic board and wire connecting the button and board did not address the problem. At least two neighbors in my new housing development are experiencing the same problem with this model. It was difficult to receive callbacks on this issue. However, once I made it past the first tier of support and actually spoke to a supervisor, we agreed we had done all we could to address the issue aside from replacing the unit. Next step which Liftmaster is assisting me with is the shipment of a replacement unit. Likely I will have to install it myself but I’m willing to do that. The supervisor was great at reducing my frustration level which had built up due to no return calls, no solution, etc. Thanks go to “Carlos”.

Liftmaster product versus garage door installation service
Our experience after having a new Liftmaster garage door opener installed is the purpose for this report. It is appropriate to emphasize our respect for the superior quality of their opener. However, we also suggest that they can benefit by implementing greater accountability for the technicians that they rely on for installation of their system. Upon contacting Liftmaster regarding the fact that our control was no longer functioning for operating the opening and closing of the garage door we were informed that a a technician would need to evaluate our need and provide an estimate of the fee for getting us operational again. When the initial technicians visited they indicated that our previous Liftmaster system was old and needed replaced, sidestepping our request for an estimate of the overall cost. Out of fairness our previous system was 17 years old, but we were told that they could replace the old system if we wanted them to perform the service and identify what was needed. Though we felt disregarded with our estimate request, we felt that we really had no other choice but to have them proceed since we knew we were going to be faced with replacing an aging system. As their work progressed they kept adding costs for pieces of the infrastructure that were also needed. The technicians’ communication was mostly one-way with little apparent regard for customer comments and questions. In the end they installed a mostly functional new system, but when required to make a second visit to our residence because of a malfunctioning control device they were able to make our wall unit and mobile devices work and departed. When we contacted a local Liftmaster service provider we were informed that the two sidebars and related fixtures also needed to be replaced. That technician spent a long time completing this portion of project and, again, it is mostly functional. Though the technician informed us that we had not been given the correct mobile control device. When I provided two new devices he took them and programmed one to open and the other one to close and went on his way. We should add that during his visit we requested that he not block our neighbor’s garage door with his truck, but he ignored our request for the remainder of his visit. Finally, we are left with a garage door opener that is noisier than our previous one and the door no longer closes flush with the garage floor by about an inch. We were prepared for the Liftmaster replacement to be expensive, but we didn’t expect less than quality service. The initial technicians were associated with Madano Garage Door and Repair, and the second local technician was associated with Garage Door Repair.

We were referred by Liftmaster to Dan with Garage Door Service, located here in Sacramento. He was able to resolve the unsatisfactory installation that was performed by the two previous vendors. The gap between the bottom of the garage door and the cement floor was corrected by new sensors and tightening down bolts that were left unsecured when the previous system’s side bars were replaced. And the noise associated with opening and closing the door is considerably less than before Dan’s quality assistance.
