Novice to Kettlebell Warrior
I didn't know what to expect when first starting this program. Here I am, writing this review because I genuinely been a huge help to me. I started at 47, out of shape, and honestly a little intimidated by the whole "kettlebell" idea and ability to swing heavy. I pictured CrossFit bros swinging weights around. On top of that, I came in with a real concern: a history of back issues that made me nervous about anything involving hip hinges and swinging weight around. That's where my coach Luke made all the difference. Before we touched a single kettlebell, he took time with me and actually listened to my concerns about my back. Instead of jumping straight into a generic program, he built out a preparation phase focused entirely on strengthening my core and stabilizing my spine first. We spent real time on breathing mechanics, dead bugs, planks, and controlled hip hinges with just a broomstick before I ever picked up any real weight. It would have been easy for him to rush me into the program but he didn't. That patience told me right away this wasn't a cookie-cutter program. By the time we introduced the kettlebell, my body was ready in a way it never would have been otherwise. The first two weeks still humbled me. My hips felt stiff in ways I didn't know were possible. But something clicked around week four. The swing stopped being an arm exercise and became this full-body, hip-driven power move, and because of the groundwork Luke put in, my back was prepared and I felt stronger than I have in the past. By week eight, I'd dropped serious pounds and could do a Turkish get up with 53 pounds. But the bigger shift was mental. Kettlebell training forces you to move with intention. You can't half-ass a get-up. Twelve weeks in, I'm not shredded like a magazine cover, and that was never the point. I'm stronger, more mobile, and my back feels better than it has in years. Now, I actually look forward to training instead of dreading it, and a huge part of that comes down to Luke taking my concerns seriously from day one and designing a program that met me where I was instead of where he wished I'd started.
