BEWARE
I am going to be real about PP & I want older adults & the future Pals to take note. First, do not pay for membership nor work for Papa Pal. It's not worth it on either end! If your insurance company covers it please don't abuse these Pals!! Karma is real! Extremely hard workers are doing this in an economy where venture capitalists are funding someone like Parker to take advantage of the 4th industrial revolution & EXPLOIT the gig job model & take advantage of adults of EVERY age. The CEO, Andrew Parker raised 60 mil in his last fundraising effort & NONE of it has gone into improving customer service which is imperative for a service like this. Nor has it go to pay their employees on time or pay at all! The rate is about $10 an hour for a Pal if you go to an in-person visit. There is no one you can talk to in customer care at Papa Pal & they've had more than enough time to rectify their customer care for both the Pals & Papas— It's the most crucial part of the service! This means that 60 million has gone into Andrew Parker's greedy pockets. The Pals put in their all to the "Papas" which are older adults. “Pals” are asked to clean toilets, clean litter boxes, clean up syringes, look over children while Papas leave, & drive hours to Papas only to be taken advantage of by the company & the Papas (older adults) many times. You can't say no to hard labor at Papa Pal b/c you don’t want to look like you turned down the Papa. No one understands on the Papa side that boundaries need to be drawn. I have worked with amazing Papas, however, not all humans are created equally as we know, so guidelines for Papas & how to treat your Pal along w/ pay rates for Pals need to be established transparently. They aren't, so I don't blame the Papas for thinking that the Pals will do "anything for them." They probably think the insurance companies pay us personally. I want to thank the Papas who saw my hard work and tipped me $20. This has happened because I will do anything for my community. Also, many realized I was a well educated/dedicated worker so they couldn’t exploit me as easily without the guilt. Papas keep this in mind: Pals are vetted w/ background checks & many do this for the love of people & aren't to be taken advantage of. We absolutely love connecting w/ our community. There are so many hard workers out there who bring their warm touch to these older adults. I did this for my community & to take on a side gig during Covid times. I'm trying to save a significant down payment for a new home—which is my personal business, however, I am willing to do anything on top of my “regular job.” I'm not the only one, & hard honest work should never be in vain nor looked down upon. I'm a qualified/certified mental health counselor & legal consultant. I also owned a company for 7 years. I can tell you that Papa Pal is violating numerous employment laws. Andrew Parker is negligent. Go to the Papa Pal Facebook page, you'll see. If you're a Papa & request a Pal please take note your Pal is being paid almost nothing in 2021 @ $10 an hour to help you. Many times if you have a no show chances are they weren’t paid. Also, deep cleaning/chaperone services run $55+ hour! Many use Papa Pal as their "hard labor" contractors, drivers, landscapers, maids, etc. I go above and beyond because I CAN, but I see many being taken advantage of. This will leave you w/ a pool of people who may take advantage of the Papas in the long run—which is not what we are trying to do here!! Pals are trying to build a strong community. I was under the impression I would get $15 an hour, which is still little for the job of a caretaker, a maid, landscaper, companion, & for being tech-savvy. Fundamentally, I was doing this on the side because love working w/ people. Papa Pal claims to offer bonuses but it's fraud in the inducement. You may get a few $10 bonuses here & there- it still does not make up for lack of pay & most times they steal the bonus from you. When it comes to the phone calls: Papa Pal just wants to bill the insurance companies to bankroll the Ceo's pockets. He didn't do this because he cared about his "Papa", he did this because he worked in healthcare prior & knew he could bill for each call. Parker knows he can make lots of money harassing senior adults & exploiting his employees because it's a "gig job." Many of the Papas don't even sign up for the call service (where we check in on Papas) & are thrown for a loop when they get calls once a week asking them how they are. Pals only get paid if we talk to the Papas for 8 minutes & it's $5. It's not the Pal's fault we call. It’s our job. Many Pals are under the impression the senior adults want this service. However, many don't want the check-in wellness calls & are rude as hell. PP should only put Papas who want the check-up call service. I've yet to be paid for my last in-person visit & it's a shame.
