Nice from PC - terrible from APP
Nice program if you navigate from PC - still difficult to find what you are looking for. Unfortunately, their APP destroys any use-ability, which is the preferred method to access this resource.

As an absolute beginner I found the lessons to be way too complex and kind of dull. For example in lesson 3 there might be 5 new chords with difficult finger positions, then on top of that there will be some extra concept that is mentioned only briefly. The supplemental materials are written in musical notation that does not seem to be explained anywhere on the site. The site itself feels clunky and outdated. There is no structure to the site, you just have to randomly pick a series of videos and then hope that they are kind of OK. I guess there is also a lot of overlap. Cancelling my membership was fairly easy, but I did need to speak to a person in support through their chat app.

Hello Brian, Forgive me for taking so long to get back to you. I must have missed this review. If you would like assistance in setting up a practice plan, I would be more than happy to have one of our instructors create a plan for you tailored on your specific needs. The supplemental content is written in standard notation and tablature. Most guitar players are fine reading just tablature. If you would like I can give you resources to help understand this. A small note, you can cancel by phone or the website, whichever is more convenient for you.

I signed up for JamPlay, and started working through basic guitar lessons. I found all three of the instructors that I tried to be long-winded, rambling, and lacking in direction when it came to WHAT a beginner should be practicing in order to build skills. Additionally, I found the player to be clunky and counter-intuitive, and requires signing in repeatedly....which means putting my guitar down to pick up my keyboard. I brought this to the attention of JamPlay support, and other than telling me "we have lots of instructors" and "we are planning to update the player but I cant tell you when" they offered zero actual support, suggestions, or assistance. I have actually found better resources available for free on YouTube....so save your money.

Hello Todd, We're very sorry to hear that you are not happy with your experience. I'd like to try to help you out and make things right! The first thing I can offer is a complementary service with our Lead Instructor, Chris Liepe. Basically, he will communicate with you via e-mail, Skype or chat and get information on your current skill level and your goals. Then he will put together an entire series of lessons on our site which will guide you to where you want to be. He will also be available via private message to help with tweaks to the plan and helping you get over your roadblocks along the way. Our customer service representative was right, we do have different instructors with different teaching styles, but we'd be happy to find the instructor that works for you, or create a custom plan that makes use of multiple instructors. We also have instructors available live on our chat between 6 and 10 hours per day who could help you out in real time should you get stuck, in addition to weekly live courses. There's almost always someone available. As far as the logging in, the best advice we can offer right now is to make sure you are using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox, as up-to-date browsers do not tend to suffer the same issue. We are aware that a small group of users are experiencing this issue and working to resolve it. I don't have an ETA, but it's being fixed. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly if you need anything. [email protected]

Few if any classic rock, southern rock, or British rock from the 70s or 80s. Lots of death rock and heavy metal, which is fine, but not for most 40+ year olds, who make make up most paid subscribers to sites like these. Again, good site, but not for classic rock aficionados.

While we certainly do have a lot of heavy metal, I would say our strongest point lies with classic rock and similar categories (rock, blues, etc). Did you check out Phase 2 under Blues or Phase 2 under Rock? Or artist series from Steve Stevens, Dave Weiner, Bumblefoot, or Lita Ford? I think you'd enjoy all of those lessons!
