Imagine sitting at your desk, working on a math problem. You spend three whole minutes solving it. You click submit. Boom. Your SmartScore drops from 89 to 74 because of one tiny typo. All your hard work vanishes in a second. This is the daily torture known as IXL. While teachers think it is a helpful learning tool, IXL is actually the worst thing ever created in the universe. It destroys a student's confidence, rewards perfection instead of progress, and turns learning into a stressful nightmare.First of all, IXL’s scoring system is completely unfair and cruel. In real life, people learn from their mistakes. But on IXL, making a mistake feels like a crime. The "SmartScore" does not measure how smart you are; it measures how lucky you are not to make a typo. If you get a question wrong, the system punishes you by stealing your points. It drags you backwards. This makes students want to give up. Instead of feeling proud of the 20 questions they got right, they feel like failures because of the two they got wrong. It is a system built on punishment, not encouragement.Secondly, IXL causes extreme stress and anxiety. School should be a safe place to try, fail, and grow. Instead, IXL turns homework into a high-stakes horror movie. The closer you get to the goal of 100, the scarier it gets. Many students cry, slam their laptops, or experience intense panic because they are stuck in the "Challenge Zone" for hours. No educational tool should make kids feel miserable or dread learning. It turns curious students into stressed-out robots who only care about a number on a screen. Some teachers argue that IXL gives good practice and helps students master skills. They say that repetition helps things stick in your brain. However, there is a big difference between practicing and doing mindless, endless chores. IXL does not actually teach you the concept when you get it wrong. It just gives you a giant wall of text to read, which is confusing when you are already frustrated. Real mastery comes from a teacher explaining a problem in a new way, not from a computer program yelling "Incorrect!" over and over again. In conclusion, IXL is a black hole of happiness that needs to be stopped. It crushes a student’s spirit with its brutal scoring system and turns learning into pure stress. Education should be about sparking curiosity and helping kids grow, not forcing them to chase an impossible score. For the sake of students' mental health everywhere, schools need to delete IXL forever and bring back better ways to learn.
