If I could give zero stars I would. This company should be avoided at all cost. They smashed my beautiful 1913 Steinway baby grand piano and then did everything possible to avoid paying any insurance. The piano was insured for $10,000 and the company claimed that because there was a clause in the fine printing stating that because the piano had not been insured for the full value, they did not need to pay out the full insurance for it. They paid $1,000. The piano requires a full action rebuild, and repair and refinishing of the cracked soundboard. Just to be clear, this is far more than $10,000 of damage from basically dropping the piano and smashing it. Beware of this company with items you value!!
Response from International Sea & Air ShippingMar 4, 2021
Dear Mr. Miller
We are sorry to learn that the piano was damaged, we understand that the claim was settled at USD 1,015.50.
Again we are sorry for any inconvenience that was caused to you.

1/3 service, not full. Find someone else like Schumacher.
My wife have done 3 full-service overseas moves from Everett, WA to Trani, Italy, then back and the most recent moved from Everett, WA to Munich, Germany. The last was done by International Sea & Air Shipping and they were horrible. The packing crew were short-handed, unprofessional, and intimidating to my wife who stayed behind to direct traffic there. I was already in Germany when she called me in tears. Every other move she just raved about how nice the crew was and how efficient and professional. Not this time.
They even downright refused to keep packing with items left in the house and about 20% of the container still empty! We had to have a separate shipper come get the rest of it (quite professional btw, shoulda used them, psst it's Schumacher) and incurred additional expense. When the goods got to this side, the German movers even took pictures of the packing job inside the container because they couldn't believe how bad it was. Now, the German side of the move was stellar. So, there's that. I am just steamed at what a debacle it was. Moving internationally during a pandemic is stressful enough without this. Steer clear of this company.
UPDATE: As you can see from their reply, they will blame their customer if the company makes a mistake. What is not mentioned is that the crew kept telling my wife that the container was not going to hold everything and forced her to choose what to send. This is where her indecision came from. Then we had to pay $2500 to ship what they left behind...much of which was clearly marked and communicated as going. A $300 "discount" and $1k and no apology for being verbally abusive to my wife is far short of adequate. Good companies don't act this way.
Response from International Sea & Air ShippingJan 22, 2021
First, I would like to apologies for any inconvenience that was caused to you, however I must point out that what happened was not entirely our fault, your wife was not ready and organized for us, she kept changing her mind as far as what should go and what should not, having the crew waiting for her to decide. If you were prepared and decisive none of this would occur. Nevertheless, in good faith we gave you a discount of $450.00 and we are willing to give you another refund of $1000.00 to make up to you.
We have handled over 30,000 international moves over the years and I am proud to say with extremely high satisfaction ratio, I am only sorry that you were not one of them.
UPDATE: If we didn't take any responsibility, we wouldn't offer a refund of $1000.00 in addition to the $450.00 already given.

LOST half of our things, overcharged by $6k
If I could give them 0 stars or minus I would. This is the most dishonest, incompetent moving company I have ever hired.
I called in July to get a quote for a 20 foot container traveling from the US to Costa Rica. Spoke with Ami Oded who seemed very professional and got back to me very quickly. As I knew there were a lot of extra costs added to the shipment quote later, I asked for his opinion on how much those extra fees could go for a household move. He refused to tell over email and eventually told me over the phone that it could be a few hundred dollars extra (really wish I had that in writing). I said that sounds great and booked the shipment. We were quoted just under 6k and figured we could afford to go a little higher. Also we were expecting some delays due to the pandemic and were not too worried about timing. A couple of weeks later we start receiving more invoices for around 2k each, for various things: for customs inspections both in the US and in Costa Rica, for taxes, for other port fees. To the point where we had payed double the initial quote, around 12k total, and we have not even received any of our things. After the shipment got to Costa Rica we were passed on to a local moving company and we never heard back from International Sea and Air Shipping. We found out the inventory they had prepared was done wrong so the customs in Costa Rica would only release part of the shipment in September. Here we are in December, almost 6 months after I have hired these people, and have lost half of our things because the customs refuse to release them due to the flawed inventory International Sea and Air Shipping had prepared. Do not trust them with your belongings or your money, they are fraudulent company and they know what they are doing to people.

We very much sympathize with your situation. However, your accusations are inaccurate and misleading. We do not have any control over Customs, port authorities, government, and border control.
As you are well aware, your container was pulled for inspection by CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Patrol) at the port of exit in Long Beach CA, as well as by Costa Rican Customs at destination. The examination conducted on your container led to the delays and additional charges you referenced.
Our shipping agreements cannot include or foresee charges resulting from a U.S. Customs exam, as this is a random selection process which we have absolutely no control over. This is why we clearly indicate in our contract that the price does not include Custom Inspection, Storage and Demurrage charges, Port charges, and import taxes if applicable.
On July 27: We loaded your items into a container and transported it from your residence to Long Beach terminal for export.
On July 29: We received notification that your container was placed on hold by U.S. Customs and informed you on this same day. We Indicated that additional charges would apply as determined by Customs, the steamship line, and U.S. port authorities.
On July 30: We sent you an online tracking link to the Custom Exam Site portal so you could see in real time the progress of the examination.
On August 4: We informed you that your container was still at the Customs Exam facility pending inspection.
On August 6: We informed you that the Customs Exam was complete and would confirm the associated charges.
On August 7: We informed you of the exam charges and noted additional fees would apply for demurrage at the port and terminal. You replied to acknowledge and accept the charges.
On August 11: We sent you the new shipping schedule on the next available vessel following the completion of the Customs exam. The departure date was just 6 days after the intended vessel.
On August 15: We received the final charges from the steamship line for demurrage, drayage, rollover, and gate fees. We sent you an itemized list and explanation of all the associated costs. We also sent you back-up invoices and documentation.
Regarding the packing list discrepancy: Items removed from the original packaging during the U.S. Customs inspection were not loaded back into the container in accordance with our inventory list. Unfortunately, items were loaded loose following the Customs inspection which led to increased number of packages than stated in export documentation. When your container arrived in Costa Rica, it was pulled for inspection by Costa Rican Customs at random. They identified a discrepancy in the pieces count which resulted from the reloading process at the Customs Exam facility following U.S. inspection. This was not performed by our movers or any personnel from International Sea & Air Shipping.
On September 8: We were informed of this issue by our affiliates in Costa Rica. To help resolve this matter, we worked with our agent to draft and notarize a letter to present to Costa Rican Customs.
Unfortunately, these matters are out of our hands and we did everything within our power to fulfill moving services and provide full transparency.
Again, we apologize for any inconveniences and extra expenses that you incurred, and hope you understand they did not result from wrongdoings or flawed business practices on our part.

Moving from NY to France
Due to the Covid Situation I had to move quickly from NYC back to France and organized a moving with Onternational Sea and Air Shipping. On the day of picking up my belongings, my AirPod disappeared. I was using them 5 minutes before arrival of the moving company. However the moving company agreed to reimburse me with those .
At the arrival of my belonging (after 2 months of waiting) I had the surprise to see that my TV was fully destroyed (even if packed in a TV Box and protected) .
A complete JOKE ! I would not recommend this moving company at all!!!

Is rating lower than "1" possible??
Is rating lower than "1" possible??? This is a horrible company, significantly overpriced and terrible customer service. We made a move from the USA to Europe and 4 months later another move from Europe to USA. The cost of containers increased by more than $12,000 in that time frame and when asked for an itemization (I never said the amount wouldn't be paid), the response from Hilary C. was: "I have more than 25 years experience and the itemization you received is all we will provide." My specific question was the increase however it seems all costs are hidden in the container price. When asked for a more specific breakdown of the labor hours charged and price per hour (again not stating that I would not pay just looking for specification) which should be an easy question for someone with over 25 years experience, this is the answer I received (via email), "we added for labor ocean and labor at destination you can break that down however you like, we do not break down further." Not to mention that when speaking with Hilary on the phone and questioning her on the invoice, I was not able to even complete my question as she continually interrupted and at one point yelling at me and then ended the telephone call abruptly. Simply said, absurd! If the contract had not been previously signed, I would not have used this company. Hilary is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with.
We need to make one additional, large shipment and will be using another company; extremely professional and customer oriented... polar opposite of this company.

Shipper loses items
Do not use this company unless you want to gamble on which items will show up. We chose this company to assist with our move to Germany based on the good reviews, but I would never recommend them. In addition to the sales person going MIA after sale was confirmed, we lost 3 boxes of items (ironically, or perhaps intentionally, the most valuable of our items), and as they use third parties to perform all parts of the move, there is no accountability. Emails from their office to the outside vendors regarding our missing belongings went unanswered. Additionally, we ended up with an extra moving blanket in one of our boxes, which clearly shows our belongings were rifled through. The insurance that they offer (which we payed for) only covers total loss, so if one of their many service providers removed a box, it is not covered. As mentioned at the beginning unless you want to gamble on which items go missing, I would steer clear of this company!

Poor customer service
We contacted this company because we were moving from U.S. to Germany (1 small bedroom apartment). It took us days to get a quote from a representative of this company - Hillary C. Afterwards, our calls were never answered, it was basically impossible to get the representative on the phone. The messages we left on the voice box were either ignored or answered with a significant delay. We asked several clarifying questions about customs taxes, etc. Got responses along the lines: How can you guys not know all this? It was interesting to compare this poor customer service with the one by their direct competitors, who were always available for any types of questions, without assuming any prior knowledge on our side. This is by far not the level of customer service I envision.
