Dr. Damania will work with you to identify areas of weakness and strength. He pushes you hard, teaching you a systematic way to review cases and to gain knowledge efficiently from practice questions. Regardless of what scores or grades you get, I believe that the process he shares of working through patient cases will make a better doctor because you will be able to think more critically and holistically about cases, incorporating basic science into clinical science cases. That being said, on my STEP 2 CK, I got the highest score of all my practice tests - higher than I thought I would achieve. He was very emotionally supportive through the process, encouraging me to continue to persevere through all of the rough practice tests. I started off well, achieving 3-digit scores about what I needed to match for a general surgery residency, then started getting 3-digit scores below passing and below where I had started. I trusted in the process that he laid out, just focusing on learning, ultimately getting a score worthy of general surgery (and the highest 3-digit score achieved to date - way higher than my highest practice test score)!!!!

Thank you, Clare, for sharing your incredible journey! It’s wonderful to know that the process not only helped you achieve an outstanding score but also enhanced your critical thinking and holistic understanding of patient cases. Your perseverance through the ups and downs of practice tests is commendable, and it’s great to hear that you trusted the process and kept focusing on learning. Achieving a score higher than your practice tests, especially one that aligns with your goals for a general surgery residency, is a fantastic accomplishment! Congratulations on your success, and best of luck as you continue your journey in medicine!
