truth ( short version)
Background: I’m a US MD student who took step over the summer. and I passed :) I first purchased this because i was scoring around the mid 60s on my NBMEs and i thought this extra resource would help me get over that hump( wanted to get a 70 before taking it) and Dear God was i wrong 😭 I would not recommend this resource to anyone * ( besides one group) If you’re already using Anki, Uworld, Pathoma , bootcamp/BNB you literally do not need this one. TRUST ME. Step one historically has had a 97% pass rate way before hyguru existed and people only used Uworld first aid anki, pathoma and then board and beyond. I probably used less than 10% my issue with the videos you can tell they were just a bunch of random videos he made either from webinars he had and just compiled them together. he doesn’t really teach like boards or bootcamp. it’s just him telling you remember this or that or just reiterating first aid word for word. and if i took a shot for everytime he told me to buy his pharmacology course or another course he has within a video i would be brain dead. because why do i have to buy an additional course if i already bought the step 1 course?!?! i could go on and on but i advise you not to buy it and if you still are one of those type a paranoid med students, have one person in your group buy it and share it ( the warning about multiple IP is false) and you can see what i mean. * the only group i would recommend this for would be for an IMG who has been practicing for years. where the medicine and stuff is relevant since you’ve been practicing but you may just not remember the stupid small details like which chromosome or which disease is a AD vs AR and just need the information quickly. also should have been sus that there’s only good reviews no mediocre reviews or anything in between. the saying if it’s too good to be true doesn’t exist for no reason 🙃 there’s just no way that everyone loved this product with no complaints 😭 so maybe this comment won’t even see the light of day but if i can discourage at least one person from making my mistake i am fine with that. Good luck UPDATE: After sharing my thoughts and experiences with this course, Dr. Damania personally reached out to me with a sincere interest in understanding my perspective. I was really impressed by how genuinely passionate he is about teaching and helping students succeed. In our conversation, it became clear that there may have been a misunderstanding on my part regarding the course's intent. I initially thought the product was designed as a comprehensive teaching tool, but Dr. Damania clarified that it's actually meant to serve as a review course, rather than a resource for learning the material from scratch. This insight really helped me see the value of the course in a different light, and I appreciate Dr. Damania's openness and commitment to improving the learning experience. It’s evident that he truly cares about his students' success, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to engage in such a thoughtful dialogu
Response from HyGuru USMLE PrepNov 23, 2024
Hi Cameron, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m genuinely sorry to hear that the course did not meet your expectations. My goal has always been to create a high-yield, integrated, and well-organized resource to serve as a comprehensive guide for the USMLE journey! No gimmicks, just increased value. I was a med student myself, and I continue to center myself on the med student journey. It’s disheartening to learn that your experience fell short, and while I understand that no course can be a perfect fit for everyone, I would appreciate the opportunity to connect with you directly to better understand your concerns and identify areas for improvement. Additionally, I would like to kindly address that encouraging others to share a single subscription undervalues my effort that goes into developing these resources for students. Our IP policy serves to not have multiple students on one account. I value your feedback deeply and would be more than happy to offer you a full refund while engaging in a thoughtful discussion to ensure your voice is heard. Please feel free to reach out at your convenience. Thank you again for your honesty—insights like yours inspire me to continually enhance the value of this course for all students. Best regards, Rahul Damania, MD
