Home style direct meals are absolutely disgusting. Try mom's meals for better tasting food

I have been receiving these meals for over a year as a disabled senior citizen through a Medicaid based provision by a senior case manager in my county I had been on a special diet several years ago losing over 100# to have surgery and maintained weight loss and was taken off heart meds as health dramatically improved. I need low carb high protein meals which these are not! When offered these meals I opted for 1 per day instead of more as I don't like to waste food but want to know what I am eating and still am frugal and think these while convenient perhaps for care givers and those with dementia might not know the difference with what they eat I don't believe these can be as healthy as they claim to be. These meals average 420-470 calories and high carb and ingredients sources are suspect . The meatloaf and other beef dishes are mostly soy and wheat and I wonder what percentage is actually beef or beef flavoring as looks ok but needs a lot of spicing up to taste anything Portion size levels also vary on same meals with some portions half the size of others seeing how they are filled in their slots so reading their nutrition is suspect, averaged at best Initially contacted customer service about sweet potatoes with corn and beans in a breakfast entree as it's somewhat covered by being roasted but repeatedly has round sections of black mold on the sweet potato chunks that have to be dissected out if attempting to eat any, which happens with the potatoes being mechanically processed and just added in bad parts along with good . The meals with any corn tortillas always a mushy slop that despite separating to cook or microwaving either has to be scraped away from the filling or covered with sauces to make edible, if you can handle the texture Their mini egg bites are good and make that breakfast worth ordering but calling it a bigger breakfast might be for an ant! You get the mini egg bite that's literally a bite, as well as in some meals they make another one with a little peppers onions and potatoes also good but tiny They opt for apple sauce sometimes with another fruit flavor added and peas and carrots as sides for most meals though a few come with chopped strawberries that are good They scoop mashed potatoes under the meat items whether powdered or from fresh is hard to tell as it's flavorless and can't be separated til heated and is somewhat gritty, but by time heated just melts and mixes in the gravy, also flavorless but can be spiced up I feel bad that at least 1/3-1/2 the meal goes in the trash when done ! Their side of Mac and cheese that comes with beef entrees is usually 2 rounded spoonfuls but with spices tastes pretty good and perhaps could be larger portion than given Overall these wouldn't make it in a grocery store though edible their prices are high, quality low portions small and I have requested through my case manager for passed several months, to cancel the services, but they keep coming so I pick through them and save the peas carrots for soups and do like their chopped strawberries so save them to add to yogurt. Although these meals come at no cost to me personally they cost $10 each yet make the $1.60 frozen dinners in Walmart seem gourmet ! I do much better using Walmart+ to order frozen dinners! Getting rid of the foam chests and boxes builds up and is problematic as trash won't take as is so you have to break up the foam chests into trash bags and cut up the cardboard boxes They also send large bag each delivery of an oatmeal mix with powdered milk that would maybe be survival food but hard to fix flavor and recipes given to use in don't taste good and despite trying to add to numerous dishes and recipes ends up in trash too! Just seems to be a lot of waste! These meals could end up as dollar store clearance while supplies last! In a grocery store would have high returns Health wise supervised by dieticians I wish RFK's people could evaluate randomly and DOGE look into why the ones prepared for seniors/ Medicaid recipients are so expensive yet such low quality and why I can't get them canceled as I request for over 8 months? I told case manager every call, that I don't want this service as the food isn't fit for its purpose. When it arrives by first day after eating I swell my BP rises I get heartburn,nausea and bloat up gaining 4-5#overnight! It triggers my gut and congestive heart failure and legs swell Then after they are gone, the swelling goes down within a week so at least for me these are not heart healthy ! In fairness initially their customer service replaced the moldy meals but ones where seals are open still happens Some of the chicken and chicken flavored meals are good enough but texture still an issue as some mixed dishes might have 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce of meat and the rest is rice and other starch added These meals also are not good for those with weight loss needs !

Low quality food, not much for vegan items.

I am a recipient of their meals due to a disability where I cannot cook for myself and need meals post surgery. I just received my meals package, and after a good many meals, and a fair trial, I can officially say, that I wouldn't feed these meals to a crockodile. The meat, if you can call it that, is pressed or minced, and mostly soy, and feels like ice cream in your mouth. It literally activated my gag reflex. The gravy is clear water with cornstarch chunks or something floating in it. I had a dietician friend look at them. When weighing the meat, it was 2 oz max, and at 6-7g protein per gram there's no way their nutrition labels are correct, at 23g per meal. Including protein in the other items. Not even with soy as an ingredient in the meat. They are not edible. Not in the slightest, and I am not a picky eater. I'll eat almost anything. These meals are NOT appropriate for surgery recovery. This meal service needs to be closed.

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! While the food is ok,delivery is horrible. They were supposed to deliver to my apartment,on the 11th floor. They left it on the first floor,4 times in a row.I gave them ample time to fix the issue.My meals were somewhat melted each time,but this last time was warm.I had to throw out the whole order.They offered to replace the meals,why?So,I could get another melted box of food?Since I'm poor&am receiving these meals, apparently I have no real say in the delivery.Just wanted to speak my peace&warn people.DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!

Homestyle Direct, hands down you're running a scam, peddling the most disgusting frozen meals I've ever encountered, and you've got the audacity to charge $9 to 10.95 for a measly 200 to 300 grams of pure misery! Your Garlic Parmesan Chicken and Rice is a stench champion, reeking like it was dredged from a sewer. The nr.12 Chicken Tenderloin Dinner Looks like vomit and smells even worse, hitting you with a rancid blast before it's even out of the package. The # 25 Creamy Garlic Shrimp A pathetic excuse for food that smells like chemical waste. And your chicken Alfredo? don't get me , the stench intensifies, seeping into my skin, hair, and soul. Half a bite in, I'm gagging as the smell oozes out of my pores, sticking around for 72 hours no matter what--three showers a day plus a sunken bath, 12 showers, and baths combined in the last three days, besides other fluids, have chugged in 3 gallons of water in the last three days hoping to flush it out, and I still feel like I swam in your toxic slop. I cook these dishes at home with fresh ingredients, and they're nothing like this garbage. It's gotta be your sketchy preservatives, cheap-ass plastic packaging, or whatever godforsaken freezing process you use--probably dunking it in a vat of regret. I reached out, and you ignored me, proving you know your product's trash. $9.95 for this? You should be paying people to endure this torture, not charging them! A restaurant serving this would be boarded up in hours, bankrupt by lunchtime. Your overpriced, stinking slop is a crime against taste buds, an insult to food and a biohazard to humanity.
