I hired Home Energy Installation Pros…
I hired Home Energy Installation Pros to install a solar attic fan and multi-layer insulation. The latter part of the work was fine – overpriced but fine. I had a previous electric attic exhaust fan, so the hole was already cut. The first installation yielded leaks. It took OVER A WEEK for them to come out to fix it. The fix didn't work. They came out again and again the fix didn't work. I was ready to hire my own roofer, but they said they now had a roofer on their staff. I said OK. The 3rd “fix” still left a small leak but they damaged the plywood underlayment and broke a few shingles. I was done with them and didn't want them to ruin any more of my house. I called MHIC. They provided Home Energy Pros' liability insurance policy information. I filed a claim with the insurance company and a complaint with MHIC. I got repair estimates from a couple of reputable, local roofers and selected one. Home Energy Pros, a self-professed “Christian Company” told the insurance company that my roof was shot and that I had pre-existing leaks. Neither of these things were true. My roof is 18 years old with 30 year shingles. I've never had a leak (prior to this job). If they truly felt that my roof was shot, THEY SHOULD HAVE REFUSED THE JOB. The latest lies they have told is that they told me not to put a new fan in the same hole as the old fan. This is 100% FALSE. They never made this recommendation. They also now say that the old fan's installation was poorly done (first I've heard this). OK, so what? I hired them to install a new fan. I have no idea why they feel this is relevant. If this was a problem, then they should have itemized a cost to re-cut the hole. After all they put me through, to call ME a liar, is beyond the pale. The insurance company hired a structural engineer. Although I do not have access to his report, he told me that my roof most definitely was NOT shot and he saw no evidence of OLD leaks – just the new ones around the solar fan. The insurance company denied my claim of $2,750 to repair my roof because Home Energy Pros has a cheap liability policy that does NOT cover “work product” (like the plywood, the shingles...). This is a HUGE “buyer beware”. When a company says they are insured, I never knew they could be insured and not responsible for damages they caused. Their contract says: “Warranties: The seller warrants that any work or material provided or supplied shall be performed in a reasonably good and workmanlike manner”. I missed this warning of their admission that they strive for mediocrity. The roofer I paid out of pocket to remediate the mess they made wrote: “In my professional opinion as a licensed roofing contractor, this installation was executed in a completely unworkmanlike manner and falls well below standard industry building codes. Leaving a roof penetration unsealed without basic underlayment guarantees structural water damage. This work is unacceptable, and a complete teardown and proper re installation of the fan housing, surrounding underlayment, and shingles are required to protect the integrity of the home.” I would like this company to stand behind their “Christian Values” and do the right thing: pay the cost of the roof repair ($2,750). How they can damage my roof and just walk away unscathed is beyond me. They have (thus far) refused. UPDATE: The business's response is once again a bunch of lies. I also have photos of the old fan before their work and there is no damage evident. The structural engineer told me this when he came here to inspect. Yes, you used the existing hole from the old fan but never once did you tell me there were issues with this nor did your work order reflect additional risk or work. You're making this story up after the fact to cover for your incompetent installation. I also have photos from your installer after the 2nd fix that show that the shingles near the ridge vent (just above the fan) were not damaged before the 3 fix. You offered me a full refund of the solar fan installation job ($1,500)? I must have missed that. I thought you offered to refund the cost of the fan. I will consult with my lawyer again to see if he advises that I should call you directly. His preference was that we bring our evidence to small claims court. At that time, we can subpoena the report from the structural engineer. The roofer who I hired to do the repair is also prepared to testify.
Response from Home Energy ProsOct 5, 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We take feedback like this seriously and want to ensure every concern is properly addressed. We’re sorry this situation has been frustrating, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns. Your roof is approximately 18 years old, and an electric attic fan was already installed in this location before our work began. We have photographs taken prior to our installation documenting the existing condition and damage around the previous fan. We did not choose the location or cut a new opening in your roof; we used the existing opening. We returned to your home several times in an effort to address your concerns. After your insurance claim was denied, you requested approximately $2,700 for roof repairs, including work to areas such as the ridge vent that our company did not touch. We offered you a full refund in an effort to resolve the matter, which you declined. We understand your disappointment, but we cannot accept responsibility for pre-existing damage or repairs to areas outside the scope of our work. Please reach out to our team directly at [email protected] or give our office line a call at 833-359-3536, so we can look into this further. We are more than willing to review what happened and work toward a resolution. We sincerely wish you the best moving forward. Thank you, Home Energy Pros
