My Opinion
This is a very good program but it needs some practice after the quiz so that we can apply what we’ve just learned.
At Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center, our passion is helping musicians worldwide unlock the art of playing the piano by ear. Founded in 2000 by Jermaine Griggs, we have dedicated decades to teaching the dynamic skill of understanding and interpreting music through ear training, music theory, and recognizing patterns. Our focus is on soulful music genres that best express this art form, including gospel, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and pop.We believe that playing by ear transcends traditional music learning methods, allowing musicians to experience and express music in a deeply personal way. Our specialized approach teaches students to hear recurring themes in songs and interpret them creatively on the piano.Over the years, we have reached and serviced more than 2 million musicians through various platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, our email newsletter, free lessons, comprehensive paid courses, and a personalized coaching program. Our resources are designed to cater to learners at different stages of their musical journey, from beginners to advanced players.Hear and Play Music and the Gospel Music Training Center is more than just a teaching platform; it's a community where musicians come together to share, learn, and celebrate the joy of music. Join us, and embark on a musical adventure that will transform the way you hear and play music.

THE SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE EXCELLENT BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHERE I AM AT IN MY PROGRAM. SHOULD I ONLY DO THE SCALES IN T HE MASTERY PROGRAM AND THEN WHAT DO I DO FROM THERE? I JUST FEEL LOST IN THE SYSTEM. THANK YOU. CARLO ALIOTO

Hi Carlo, thanks for your review. I would recommend starting back at https://gmtc.hearandplay.com and on the left menu, click on COURSES > "The 100: Gospel Grammar System." You can start at the first lesson and take the quizzes. It will then tell you when you should launch other sub programs like "Scale Mastery Series" or "Beginner Basement" for basic songs at different levels. If you follow the curriculum, it will take you through the whole system, step by step. While our GMTC platform is vast and there are over 1,200 individual lessons and so much to do (like a facebook timeline never ends), the best thing you can do is hone in on the Gospel Grammar System and tune out everything else (for now). I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more guidance. Thank you.

A few years back I purchased your Hear and Play product and liked it a lot. However, the version I purchased could not run well in a newer Windows version. I expected an update at a reduced price or even free, but I was told I had to buy it again. I thought that was unreasonable so I don't use it anymore.

Hi there, thanks for your review. I want to assure you that all updates to the same product are always free. I'm thinking there was a miscommunication between the actual product as we have multiple software programs: Song Tutor, Instant Transposer, Ear Tutor, and Back Pocket Band. The good news is the invitation is still open to clarify what update you were trying to receive. Kindly contact [email protected] and we'll take it from there. Thanks.

I don’t think it has much to do with the company it’s just sometimes trying to find the time to log in when we are working longer and trying to find the motivation@ Least it’s a lifetime membership I won’t have to worry it runs out:)
Response from Hear and Play MusicFeb 6, 2024
Thanks for your review. Yes indeed, as you are a lifetime member, you'll always have access. Life does tend to get in the way of our extra curricular pursuits like music, but we know you'll find your way back. If you need any assistance in getting going again, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] or give us a call at 1-877-856-4187. Thanks.

I really enjoyed it more at first. Format was straightforward when you guys changed and added a bunch of stuff. I got a little lost in it. There are some benefits to the program and they have helped me some. Seems I’m at stand still now

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that the new community-driven Gospel Music Training Center (GMTC) platform can be overwhelming - with so many more areas than before. I’d like to invite you to view the tour found at the top of menu. There’s also a weekly live zoom tour with Brian where he walks all members through the platform and answers questions. Lastly, the two main areas - “Courses and All Lessons” - still exist similar to before. In the “Courses” area, you’ll find all 27 listed, including “The 100: Gospel Grammar System,” “Beginner’s Basement,” “Chord Cardio,” and “GospelKeys Essentials,” to name a few. In the “All Lessons” is where you’ll find individual song lessons. Using the search bar may be easier to find these lessons. Thank you for being a long term GMTC member since 2017. As always, we’re available inside the community to further assist you.

I am not completely satisfied with the Progress I have made so far. I participates in the program, each time I unmuted to respond when the instructor asked for a response. I was muted right back. Therefore I stopped unmuting giving answers or responses because of that. I have been in the program since June 2023 and I am disappointed with my progress.
Response from Hear and Play MusicJan 26, 2024
Hi Ms Dolores, thanks for your review. While the classroom (lecture) setting allows for unmuting, it is set up in a way where the instructor's assistant mutes the entire class shortly after these periods. It would be the same as a professor asking for everyone to shout out an answer but soon needing the class to return to quiet so that they can continue. So this mute/unmute nature is normal. The only exception is when the instructor specifically asks for students to raise hand (on zoom) to play exclusively - followed by an applause from the class. Where you will really benefit from playing 90% of the allotted time is during the Guided Practice Sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings. These are set up to play along with the instructor and fellow classmates and showcase what you're learning. Also, workshops and Peak Session (songs with Coach Josh) allow for more direct playing. Posting your videos on WhatsApp and getting feedback is also another way. In fact, our entire team watches these videos daily on our meetings. Please do not stop unmuting or giving answers during the lectures. Responding is still helpful for you because it is reinforcing the information, even when shortly muted. We understand everyone learns differently and being online is a unique experience. The daily events and reinforcement (256 events over the year) is what accelerates results for many of the members (vs weekly lessons). A member of our faculty will reach out to develop a game plan going forward Ms Dolores. Please do attend next week's recital to hear your fellow students perform what they've learned in the program. It will be very inspirational and help to kickstart your next 6 months. Thank you.
