Highly Disappointed
When I moved for a job, I chose Guardian Storage. The space was indoor and climate controlled. We had also purchased the insurance in case anything were to happen. A year later, we come back to the unit and EVERYTHING was covered in mildew. We have four children, so that meant clothes, toys, furniture, priceless memorabilia (pictures, jerseys and signed baseballs, etc.). Years of memories destroyed. Nothing of ours was wet before placing it into storage and the manager kept insisting it was somehow our fault. After further investigation, it was found that their roof had leaked and there were cracks along the bottom of the wall. Since their units are basically built on a giant hill, any amount of water would automatically run down towards the units and any holes or cracks allow for water or snow to enter. With PA's humidity, it is no wonder our belongings became damaged. The manager there continued to be short with us and offered $1,000 to shut us up. He said the insurance would not cover it and we should just take the money. If we were able to, we would have fought it because we examined the contract and we were entitled to be able to use it, but because of a very recent death in the family and other stressors, we let it go. This place could have at the very least given us a full refund, but even that could not replace some of the items that had to be thrown away due to their lack of maintenance.

Thanks for your review Steve. We apologize that you did not have a pleasant experience with Guardian Storage. We have been working to improve the property after the realization of this incident and are ensuring that it will be rectified and deemed safe for any future tenants. Unfortunately our protection program does not generally cover water damage and leaks due to restrictions by the company who provides the coverage. We know there is no way to replace your memories and items regardless of what amount of money could be paid for your claim but we have taken this incident and are making improvements to better the property and management of damage claims.

Very disapointed
I thought I would be needing a storage unit for my daughter. I went to the fox chapel location in pittsburgh. I purchased a unit to be used the next day. 198.00 plus I also purchased packaging material locks ect. The following day I found out I would not be needing it. And I called to cancel. I could not recieve a refund. I think that is horrible business non professional and would never recommend your company I paid for a storage unit that was never used

Thanks for your review Kimberly. Please know that someone from our corporate office will be contacting you shortly in regards to a refund. Due to a change in staff at your location, we learned that additional training was needed in regards to situations such as yours. We thank you for bringing this to our attention and giving us the opportunity to rectify it. Thanks for considering Guardian Storage!
Update 4/2/15 - Kimberly was refunded her amount due from the unused storage rental and the staff at the location has been properly trained for future situations.

Nasty
Lock stolen out of my cart after I passed an employee...subsequently burglarized of choice items. no help at all for management. bad attitude, denial. No recovery even on insurance without visible damage. and they have rats.
Response from Guardian StorageApr 2, 2015
Thanks for your review Patricia. We will be sure to look into this situation for you and review our 24 hour digital surveillance video. We do offer monthly pest control at each one of our facilities so we will be sure to follow-up with our current vendor to ensure that no pests will be found on the property. Our protection plan program only allows us to pay out claims in which we can submit visibly damaged items to our insurance company. Thank you for your feedback and we will look into these items.

iraqi let let down
my son need to store some of his household goods. he was in the military headed to Iraq. so I traveled to Virginia to pick up his belongings ounce back in Pittsburgh Pa. I contacted guardian storage and was referred to a facility. After a discussion with the facility representative about what we had to store a decision was made on what unit was necessary the belongings. we packed everything in and that's were they stayed for a few years. he received an offer to relocate to Kansas and so finally it was time to unload the storage unit. upon arriving at the unit we noticed a sticky substance on the floor coming out from under the wall of the unit. once the unit was open and stuff moved around. there was furniture damage from some type of sticky substance. The furniture that was damaged was stacked on the same wall where the leakage was noticed outside the unit. There was nothing stacked on this furniture but other furniture. But there was a sprinkler head right above this stack of furniture. there was damage to three pieces of wood furniture that basically rendered it unusable. Well the conversation with the staff went like this. Did you get the insurance on the unit. well no I didn't. it was on the top floor of a climate controlled building with nothing but furniture in it. what could go wrong.? well its my belief that the sprinkler system leaked and I suffered the results of it. I was told to turn it into my insurance company if I wanted resolution. way to treat a returning war veteran. never again

Thanks for your review David. Our sprinkler systems runs on what is called a dry system which means that no water remains in the lines and only flows to sprinklers which have been activated. With that being said I will follow up with the managers at this facility to be sure that they are monitoring the system and ensure that it is running and being maintained properly. We do require all of our tenants to hold some type of protection, whether it be with a plan through Guardian Storage, your homeowners/renters insurance or both, and when an incident occurs you are paid out through whichever option the tenant chose upon signing the lease. We generally urge the tenant to still choose one of our very low monthly plans to offset the cost of your deductible when using homeowners/renters insurance. While we work very hard by implementing monthly pest control, daily building walk-thrus and other maintenance to prevent incidents from happening, we recommend this extra protection in the unanticipated event that something does occur. I will follow up with the staff to ensure that they are properly explaining our protection plan program to all tenants so that consumers may be more prepared in the event of an incident. Thank you again for your review and feedback.

Avoid
Profoundly unprofessional, unfriendly and left all of my possessions smelling of mothballs. The manager is curt and rude, and her employees were unable to do simple tasks like, say, process my rental paperwork.
On top of that, the entrance is seriously difficult to navigate with even the smallest moving truck.

I'm sorry that your experience was not up to Guardian Storage's standards but we will take your feedback to our staff and make improvements in our service and storage area. We thank you for being a tenant and hope that if you choose to store with us again in the future that we will do a better job of satisfying your needs.
