We really appreciate the support we…
We really appreciate the support we have gotten from this agency. We were originally with another agency but found out we were moving out of state to a more remote area early in our placement. Our last agency just told us they would terminate us from the program bc they do not service this area of TX. GreatAuPair was super helpful, gave us all the rules upfront and worked with us to find a local coordinator in the area we were moving to. Amanda was exceptionally helpful and available throughout this process.
My one recommendation for the agency is to have more host family events or a Facebook group. The struggles on these reviews are true across agencies. It really helps to learn from other host families how to set up household boundaries and rules, while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere in your home. Overall, I love the au pair program, and would recommend this agency. My kids love their au pair and have learned so much from her. But find host families to connect with so you know how to handle hard conversations.

Dear Natasha:
Thank you so much for this thoughtful review. We’re grateful you found us during your move, and we’re so glad we could step in and support your transition, especially with Amanda being so available throughout.
We also really appreciate your suggestion about more host family events or a Facebook group; you’re absolutely right that community support helps families learn how to set clear household boundaries while keeping a warm, welcoming home, and we’ll be sharing that feedback with our team.
We’re thrilled to hear your kids love their au pair and are learning so much—thank you again for your trust and recommendation, and we look forward to continuing to support your family.
Kind regards,

My experience with GreatAuPair was…Poor – Would Not Recommend
My experience with GreatAuPair was deeply disappointing. I expected a vetted, trained caregiver invested in childcare, but instead was matched with an inexperienced young woman more interested in the social perks of being abroad than in supporting a family.
The au pair showed no initiative to bond with our household or fulfill basic responsibilities. She failed to notify me promptly about injuries my daughter sustained—I only found out from my child first. She often prioritized socializing, used dating apps like Tinder, brought strangers into our home without permission, and disregarded curfews.
Despite reporting serious concerns to the agency—including the unauthorized removal of expensive personal items—their response was dismissive and ineffective. Their only question was whether the item had been returned, showing a complete lack of accountability.
While I was in the hospital giving birth, the au pair had no duties for four days. Upon my return, I asked if she would assist with the toddler and newborn—her response: “When I’m off, I’m off.” Her lack of empathy and professionalism was shocking.
Before leaving, she caused $5,000 in water damage by flooding the basement and ruined a new mattress without telling me. Communication was consistently poor. Even more troubling, the agency simply reassigned her to another family without disclosure, enabling this behavior rather than addressing it.
GreatAuPair appears to offer no meaningful training or vetting. The burden of managing and correcting their placements falls entirely on the host families, making the program more of a liability than a help.
I cannot recommend this agency and urge families to consider alternatives that take both childcare and household integrity seriously.
Response from GreatAuPairMay 4, 2026
We are genuinely sorry to hear that your au pair placement did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. At GreatAuPairUSA, we are committed to providing excellent service to both our host families and au pairs, and we take all feedback seriously. However, we would like to respectfully clarify that many of the allegations outlined in this review were not reported to our team during the placement and have only come to our attention now, more than a year after the placement ended. This makes it challenging to properly investigate or respond in a way that could lead to a better conclusion.
Regarding au pair training and vetting: All GreatAuPair au pairs are required to complete a comprehensive 32-hour Department of State-compliant training prior to arrival. This includes child development education, child safety protocols, and cultural adaptation. Our records confirm that your au pair completed this training. Additionally, each candidate undergoes rigorous vetting, including reference and background checks, interviews, and a thorough review of their childcare qualifications. The au pair placed with your family met all program requirements and submitted verifiable childcare experience prior to placement.
Regarding alleged social behavior: Host families are encouraged to establish clear house rules regarding visitors and curfews during the first week of placement. If issues arose, your Local Childcare Coordinator (LCC) was available to facilitate discussions. Our records indicate that your LCC connected with you and your au pair regularly and conducted a formal mediation in January of 2024.
Regarding childcare concerns: We understand that challenges can arise in cross-cultural placements, and our LCCs are specifically trained to help navigate these situations. Any concerns about childcare should have been promptly reported to your LCC. Our records show the LCC was responsive to previously reported concerns, but many of the specifics mentioned in this complaint were never brought to our attention during the placement, which limited our ability to provide timely support and resolution.
End of Placement: According to our records and reports from the au pair, in April 2024, both you and the au pair agreed to end the placement. However, the situation escalated when the au pair was asked to leave the house before she was able to pack her personal belongings, and was later denied access to the home and her personal belongings, including her passport. It was also reported that the locks of the house were changed within 24 hours of her being asked to leave. Locking an au pair out of the residence and withholding her personal belongings and identification documents violates the terms of the Host Family Agreement and may conflict with federal law regarding the retention of another person's government documents.
Throughout the placement, our staff provided continued support, including:
Ongoing check-ins by the LCC
A formal mediation session
Assistance with the rematch process
Support for the au pair's safe transition to a new family
GreatAuPair remains committed to the safety and well-being of all program participants. We have robust systems in place to support both host families and au pairs when challenges arise, including mediation services, rematch options, and ongoing local support through our LCCs and Regional Managers. Our team continues to refine our services to ensure that families and au pairs receive the highest level of care, communication, and assistance throughout their exchange experience.
If you are open to further dialogue, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly to engage in a constructive conversation about your concerns.

Au pair was not infant qualified
Au pair was not infant qualified. By the third day I could not let her care for my baby. Very unsafe/dangerous life threatening with legal implications on nannycam recording. Nothing intentional or malicious was done. But it was like my infant was being cared for by an 11 year old. Hotline notified, spoke to owner director Diane. Spoke to many representatives Lisa, Leslie, Ines, Amanda. Everyone apologized. Was told I'd get a full refund since hadn't even been a week ($4000). I was asked to house the au pair until she was rematched.. Beautiful, respectful young lady however unqualified. The young lady left my home to stay with nearby relatives to return to our country. She did not want to rematch. Ultimately the agency said no refund and told the affair to find her own way back to our country. I felt so bad I offered to pay for a ticket for our family took over. We were treated well in the beginning. It was handled very poorly in the end. Do not recommend. Terrible and dangerous.
Response from GreatAuPairMay 8, 2026
Dear Valued Host Family,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry for the stress this situation caused—especially with your baby involved. Child safety is non-negotiable, and we never want any family to feel uncertain about the care their child is receiving.
To support safe, prepared placements, our au pairs complete a multi-step screening and preparation process, including verification of childcare experience and references, interviews and readiness assessments, a clear review of program expectations and safety guidelines, and completion of our Au Pair Training Academy with a passing grade of at least 80 percent.
We also want to acknowledge that we were in direct contact with you throughout your placement and worked to support you toward a resolution. While we can’t address specific case details publicly, we understand how upsetting this was, and we’re sorry you felt unsupported in the final outcome.
If you’re open to it, please email us so we can work to resolve your concerns. We wish you and your family all the very best.
Kind regards,
GreatAuPairUSA Support Team

Terrible experience
We paid thousands of dollars, our au pair came from Brazil and claimed to be infant certified. She lied about her skills, and was taking naps in the recliner while holding our 14 week old. I had to wake her up in the morning so I could get out the door for work. She refused to clean up after herself, said she was only here to take care of the baby and she could not even manage to do that. I was getting 70+ messages a day from the au pair mostly complaining or asking me to buy her expensive things. I had her removed from my home after her third day of watching my son with no refund from the agency. She would leave dirty dishes and trash all over the place. Our local coordinator was amazing but management at the agency was not helpful, I was asked to let her stay at my house after we terminated the contract. I would never recommend GreatAupair, I was matched with someone who endangered our infant and it was even suggested I pay for her hotel since I didnt want her in my house. Definitely look elsewhere if youre looking for an aupair agency.
