Absolutely atrocious and unacceptable
I checked my equipment and technology using ProctorU’s ‘Test your equipment’ feature, multiple times in the days leading up to my exam. I also connected with a live technician the day before the exam, to be absolutely sure that everything worked – and the technician confirmed that my equipment and computer specs were all fine. I did however notice that there is a pop-up message from ProctorU which states, “The automated equipment check does not guarantee your equipment's functionality on exam day.”. I now believe that the purpose of this pop-up message is to escape responsibility for their poor product and service. I was scheduled to take an exam January 2021 exam at 7:30p. I logged into Proctor U more than 30 minutes before my scheduled exam time. I was initially unable to connect with a proctor for more than an hour. After using the live tech support, I was eventually able to connect with a proctor and begin the exam at 8:45pm. I wrote the exam for around 30 minutes, and at 09:08pm, I started to experience technical issues. At 09:28pm, the proctor said “Can we try to reboot your computer instead? I can do it on my end”. I agreed, and then lost connection with the Proctor. From 09:28pm until January 15th 12:40am, I tried desperately to reconnect and attempt the exam. I rebooted my computer multiple times, tried different browsers, and connected with multiple different ProctorU agents for ‘support’. Each time I closed my browser, I had to re-explain my issue to a new live technician, making an already stressful situation even more frustrating. Eventually, more than 5 hours has passed and I was not provided the opportunity to attempt the exam for which I had taken leave from work and spend weeks preparing for. This is absolutely unacceptable in this day and age.
