I’ve done many online exams and Proctor U is the worst that I’ve experienced. When you sit for an exam it should not turn into 40 minutes of trouble shooting over a laggy connection – this can mess with a students mindset. They were okay when Proctor U was an extension for Chrome or Firefox but when they required students to start using “Guadian Browser” the problems started. It’s clunky, seems to require a lot of resources and has been the source of technical issues in the past. Also, it seems inappropriate to have to download and maintain a third party browser – and then have it up to the student to troubleshoot their issues. There are the privacy issues as well considering they run all sorts of scripts on your device with no real consent agreement from the client to do so. At a minimum it should be better regionalized rather than having to share a bandwidth-hogging video connection to the other side of the planet while also connected to university servers.
