I ordered a Nicolai New York Intense. I was a bit weary ordering such an expensive perfume online, and did some research beforehand. One former employer wrote a review on glassdoor saying they knew that the company sold fakes, which didn't bode well, but lots of other customer reviews on various sites (including this one) said they received genuine products, so I took it with a grain of salt. When I received the perfume, I looked at the packaging because poor packaging is usually the first sign it's a fake. I'm not an expert, but everything was as it seemed, so I thought this must be authentic. They only had the 100ml bottle and I have a 30ml one I bought directly from a Nicolai store in London. The smell was similar, but the 100ml was somewhat different or off, so I thought it might have just been a bit old (which is how they keep their prices so low - by selling older stock) or not stored properly, etc. After testing it out for a couple of weeks, I've noticed that the perfume hardly lasts more than a half hour even when I've sprayed loads of it on. The real one lasts all day on me, and is really strong as it's a parfum so I only need to spritz once or twice. The fragrance also doesn't have the depth of the Nicolai I bought in store; it smells watered down to be honest. It's a very good dupe both in packaging and scent - but for the price you pay online (it's still really pricey) under the assumption it's a genuine article, I'd rather just spend a bit extra and get the real thing, which smells much better, has much better longevity, and better sillage. I'm really disappointed and had high hopes as most (but not all) of the reviews say they've received genuine bottles and not fakes. Shipping was pretty fast, and you didn't have to pay any duties or additional fees, and that was about it in terms of positives. :( I won't be ordering from them again. *Edit - I emailed customer services as fragrancex below in their reply suggested, requesting a refund, but I have to pay for shipping to return it, and honestly - I shouldn't be receiving products that don't smell like the actual item in the first place, paying for return shipping, having to find time out of my busy schedule to do it, and them having the audacity to claim it's genuine. :/ Just don't buy from here unless you don't mind a gamble. Maybe you'll get the real thing. Maybe you won't. I should have paid more attention to that employee's review on glassdoor.
