The interface was not clear, I was never able to have a global view of what's happening, what will happen, register in advance, be reminded, etc.

Problems With Course
We had some issues and concerns after taking the Color Grading and Finishing with DaVinci Resolve 101 course (3 of us were there for the training) at FMC in Washington, DC:
- Miscommunication:
There was a miscommunication with the instructor as to which course was actually being taught. He was under the impression that it was the Introduction to Editing with DaVinci Resolve course. We advised him that we were there for the Color Grading and Finishing 101 course. We then spent most of the rest of the morning downloading files and setting up the computers for color grading training. We lost a half day due to this issue.
- Training Manual/Book:
When we arrived for the training, we were given a general overview book (The Definitive Guide to DaVinci Resolve 15) which is used in the Editing with DaVinci Resolve course. When things were switched over to the color grading course, we traded in the original books given to us and were then given new books: Color Correction with DaVinci Resolve 15. But... FMC’s DC office only had 2 copies of that book, which wasn’t enough since there were 3 of us.
- The Training:
The instructor seemed as though he was simply going page by page through the Color Correction with DaVinci Resolve 15 book, which students could have done on their own. He was very knowledgeable about the software and did answer any questions we had. But for $1,895 (x 3) for this course, we were expecting a lot more in-depth teaching involved.
- The Equipment:
The computers set up in the training room were loaded with the free version of DaVinci Resolve and not the Studio version. This was a problem since some of the effects that were utilized in examples from the book came up with a watermark. The Studio version of the Resolve software is only $300. And I would imagine that Blackmagic could possibly provide FMC the Studio version for free since FMC is listed on Blackmagic’s website as a Blackmagic Design Training Partner. Also, it would have been nice to have a color grading monitor at each workstation. It was tough to see color grading adjustments on a single computer monitor.

Hi Barry,
We are very sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, there was an honest mistake that was made leading up to your class where two similarly titled courses were mixed up by our trainer and incorrect lesson media/books were used. We did our best to rectify the issue in a timely manner but our trainer believes about an hour of time was lost (and we were still able to cover all course material contained in the curricula), but for that, we apologize. We have rectified this issue so that it will not happen again.
Regarding equipment: we offer many types of learning methods which many times involve virtual students that have many variables. Publicly available software can help sometimes, but we are reviewing your comments with our team of trainers to consider the full version in future sessions like the type you took. We’ve used this pattern frequently, even offering this same course last week online with very positive results and we are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy it.
Regarding curricula: our DaVinci classes are certified and the trainers are required to go through the book by the manufacturer, and they also allow time for questions and deeper dives into topics students ask about during a session (as is common with many of our courses). There is a set curriculum as is common with many of our manufacturer authorized courses. We're sorry you did not enjoy this format.
Due to the experience, we would like to offer you and your team a half-day of free online training delivered by our DaVinci trainer where you can ask them some questions live online. Please reach out directly at your convenience to facilitate. We hope this shows our commitment to your satisfaction. Thank you for the feedback and for being a valued part of our community.
Sincerely,
The FMC Team

Great classes- Adobe Connect bad
Great classes- Adobe Connect is an issue.
Because I am behind the firewall of a major retailer, Adobe Connect does not work.
I need to connect to the internet a different way that involves multiple hoops.
I know it is an Adobe tie-in but a YouTube class would be better.

Thank you for your review! Unfortunately, a few companies have experienced issues with Adobe Connect due to their firewall on the organization network. Thankfully, we are able to resolve this issue easily by working with the organization's IT administrator to whitelist the Adobe Connect links prior to the class date. For better understanding, please review: https://blogs.adobe.com/connectsupport/tunneling-with-rtmp-encapsulated-in-http-rtmpt-should-be-avoided-as-it-causes-latency/

Disappointed
The class was advertised as introduction to Adobe After Effects, but actually taught as advanced, since most attendees were advanced users. Not much better help for beginners!

Needs to improve the Video and Audio presentation quality
NAB 2019 @ Las Vegas
Good sharing of knowledge. The presentation could be organized and structured better. There were at times lack of space with people still trying to fit in. Video and Audio experience was not impressive either for an event that deals with Video and Audio. The presenters need to hire professional technical writers to help script the presentation as topics were going all over the place at times. Actual participants were helping out and correcting as well.
The only presenters that were worth watching and taking the time to learn from are those they hired from people already contributing at Lynda.com. Other than that the others were just freestyling the presentation.
People were taking photos of the poorly lit screen. Each session needs to have an emailed PDF handout right off the bat. No exception. This would allow everyone to concentrate listening to the session than trying to take notes from unstructured presentations.
Did I mention Video and Audio presentation quality was not optimal for a Video and Audio show? Until this has been addressed, I don't think I will be attending any more Las Vegas conferences unless it was free at this point. Not worth my over USD$1K investment for the conference alone not to mention additional hotel, airplane, and food expenses during the 7 days I was there.
