FishingBooker Needs to Do a Much Better…
FishingBooker Needs to Do a Much Better Job Vetting Its Charters I have used FishingBooker multiple times, and after several bad experiences, I have a very different opinion of the platform than I did when I first started using it. My biggest problem is FishingBooker’s lack of vetting of the charter listings. Some charters advertise species they either cannot legally target, are not equipped to target, or do not have the appropriate federal license or permit to fish for. That is a serious problem when customers are booking a trip based on the species specifically advertised in the listing. In other words, the listing can make you think you are booking one type of fishing, only to find out that the captain can't actually provide what was advertised. I learned this the hard way after several bookings. Now I don't trust the listing alone. Before I book, I call the captain personally and ask questions that FishingBooker should have already verified: What species can you actually fish for? Are you legally permitted to target that species? Do you have the required federal license or permit? Will that actually be the target species on my trip? Customers shouldn't have to do FishingBooker's job for them. FishingBooker appears to let charter companies put whatever they want in their listings, and then the customer is left to sort out whether the information is accurate. If you're advertising a specific species, there should be a basic verification process to make sure the captain can actually provide that fishing experience legally. There is another thing that bothers me. Captains sometimes ask customers to book directly with them so they don't have to give FishingBooker a portion of the booking. I understand why a captain would want to keep more of the money. But here's the problem: when I contact the captain directly, they don't give me a discount. They charge me the full price. So why would I give up my FishingBooker discount just to book directly? As a long-time FishingBooker member, I save about 10% by booking through the platform. If the captain is going to charge me the same full price whether I book directly or through FishingBooker, I'm going to use the option that saves me money. That's the one real advantage I can point to with FishingBooker. The platform can save me money. But that benefit doesn't excuse the lack of accurate and properly vetted information. My advice to anyone using FishingBooker: DO NOT blindly trust the species listed in the advertisement. Call the captain before you book. Ask exactly what species they can legally target, what licenses or permits they have, and whether that species will actually be the focus of your trip. FishingBooker needs to stop treating its listings like simple advertisements and start taking responsibility for the accuracy of what is being advertised. If a charter can't legally fish for a species, it shouldn't be advertising that species on FishingBooker. Period. The platform has the opportunity to be a great resource for anglers, but until FishingBooker seriously improves its vetting process, customers need to protect themselves and verify everything directly with the captain before handing over their money.
