Do NOT use their captain, William Gardinar. We booked an 8 hour fishing trip for our brief stay in Freeport and had to cancel less than 24 hours later when we learned our kids had something else booked for our anniversary that day. Although the policy is no refund for a deposit ($360!!!), we made the res SO FAR IN ADVANCE that I'm sure he'll have another booking and pocket this extra cash.

Hi Jaime, thank you for your review. We're really sorry to hear that you had such a disappointing day out. Fishing should be enjoyable even when you don't catch a lot, and what you described is not the way to treat a customer. We'll be launching an internal review of your captain's performance to make sure that this doesn't happen again. We understand that your trip was cut short, and we'll be reaching out directly to help you out with this. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your thoughts. We hope to be able to organize a memorable fishing trip for you in the future. All the best!

Captain accepts an order, then there was no communication from his. We tried contacting days before, then day before a trip, still nothing. Then on day of trip we show up at Marina and captain was missing. Talked to people at Marina and they asked to see a name and boat. Here we got fully scared as per their words that captain does not have commercial license and does not belong to that Marina and if we did not pay yet we are lucky because this guy scam many people in past. But we never heard from “captain”. He pretend have business in MA but his number is NJ. So in two words Stay Away”

We're terribly sorry that your experience turned out like this. The absence of communication on the captain's end, and on top of that, not showing up for the trip is unacceptable, and we completely understand how frustrating this must've been. When you reported this to our Customer Service, we tried contacting the captain but, sadly, couldn't reach him. We refunded your deposit and launched an internal procedure to prevent this captain from getting bookings from us until further notice. Regarding the captain's credentials, we know how important it is for your guide to be licensed. This is why every captain on FishingBooker has to prove their legitimacy by uploading their ID and captain's license. This is what we call a "Basic check" – without it, the captains can't advertise their trips with us. This includes your captain. On top of Basic checks, we are collecting additional credentials like insurance policies, boat registration certificates, and other documents as part of our "Enhanced check." This isn't a mandatory step for captains, but we make sure to show which captains have passed which checks on each captain's listing page. We're sorry if this wasn't communicated clearly enough to you. We're constantly looking for ways to improve our licensing rules and the way we communicate them. Your review will help us do that, so thank you again for sharing your experience. When it comes to captains' phone numbers, we don't have any strict rules regarding area codes. This is because there are captains who offer trips from various departure points, and this sometimes includes different states. What we do insist on is that the departure points are clearly communicated on each captain's listing. Once again, thank you for sharing your experience. If you decide again to cast a line, we would be happy to help you organize a memorable fishing experience. All the best from FishingBooker.

I booked a 4 hour fishing trip with captain Bill Perkins for Sept 2, 2022. His company name is “Hooker Charter & Guide Service”. The booking was made via a third party web hosting and payment service named “FishingBooker”. The webpage presented by FishingBooker for Captain Bill Perkins/ Hooker Charter & Guide Service” quoted a total cost of $590 and provides the following verbatim description of cancellation terms: Cancellation policy Customers can cancel or modify their booking up to 7 days before the trip date free of charge. If the trip is canceled or modified later, or in the event of a no-show, 100% of the deposit will be charged. Book with 10% deposit, pay rest to captain When the captain confirms your trip, FishingBooker charges your credit card a 10% deposit to guarantee your reservation. The remaining balance is to be paid directly to the charter operator on or prior to your trip date in one of the following payment methods: My wife and I had a change of plans and cancelled via live phone call with Bill Perkins on Sept 1. I fully expected to pay a cancellation fee to Mr. Perkins for the inconvenience. Per the website language, that fee should have been 10% X $590 = $59. During the online booking process, FishingBooker strongly pushes customers to pay 100% in full up front. Customers are warned of added fees to pay the balance with a credit card at the dock. They make it sound like not paying 100% up front is highly undesirable by FishingBooker and the Captain. Regrettably, I fell into the trap and paid 100% of the full $590 fee up front. The instant I paid 100% up front FishingBooker and Mr. Bill Perkins decided to redefine the “full payment up front” to be the new “deposit”, and they plan to keep the full $590 I paid. Yes…. really. Language as to such is only surprise revealed to customers after they pay 100% up front with a credit card. Captain Bill Perkins did zero work, bought zero expensive marine gas, bought zero live bait, had to clean zero fish and had a free morning to sleep late at my expense of $590. I corresponded with FishingBooker and Mr Perkins with several texts and emails trying to reach a more fair and reasonable solution. It was all a waste of time. In the end Mr. Perkins gleefully kept 100% of my money while doing NOTHING in return. I even made a very generous offer of paying 50% of the full fee. Nope—he kept it all. FishingBooker came up with endless excuses of why they could do nothing- so sorry. Below is an excerpt from a marketing blog found online for FishingBooker. Basically the heavy handed push to get customers to pay 100% up front is a powerful selling tool to attract fishing captains to use their service and get paid in full when trips are cancelled. Online Payments – The Captain’s Perspective Updated on Mar 12, 2021 | 5 minute read | Written by Cat Earlier this year, we made it possible for customers to pay for their fishing trip right away, as soon as they reserve their trip. We got really excited about this. Now our customers have more options when paying for trips, and captains get more security against cancellations! My advice is stay far away from Captian Bill Perkins, Hooker Charter & Guide Service and FishingBooker. None of them are honorable people. And under no circumstances pay more than a 10% deposit up front. If anything changes you can be certain they will keep all of your money! Further evidence of the shady operations of FishingBooker can be found in negative captain reviews and also negative BBB and Trip Advisor reviews. They are based in Serbia according to various posts. Even though I was charged $590 for NOTHING I was unable to post a review on the FishingBooker website so they can preserve a misleading perfect review record for this captain. Shady, shady, shady people!

Hi Christopher, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re truly sorry that things panned out this way. While your cancellation did violate the captain’s policy, your review made us realize that the way this policy was communicated to you was misleading. As you pointed out, the captain’s listing page said that in cases when their cancellation policy is violated, “100% of the deposit will be charged.” This text dates back to when the only available payment method on the website was booking with a deposit. We’ve since introduced Online Payments to allow customers to fully pay their trips online and avoid any additional credit card fees at the dock. As you know, we communicate the details of Online Payments cancellation policy in the booking confirmation emails and your booking details page. However, it is now apparent that this wasn’t clearly communicated on our captains’ listing pages. You had no way of knowing the full consequences of canceling before you booked your trip. Thank you for pointing this out. We’ve now issued you a full refund of your trip price. We’ve also amended the cancellation policy text across the website, to make sure that this doesn’t happen again. We understand that not being able to leave a review on the website must've been frustrating. As you probably know, customers are only able to leave reviews when their trip has actually taken place. This is because fishing can be unpredictable, and for a number of reasons that are out of anyone's control, a lot of bookings don't go on to become trips. I’m sure you realize how unfair it would be to our partners if every bad weather cancellation had a review. But this is precisely why we extend randomized review invitations for customers to review us on external websites. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience. If you decide to get on the water again, please feel free to reach out. We’d be more than happy to organize a memorable fishing experience for you. All the best from FishingBooker.

ZERO stars!!! According to CL Guide service/Cap. Gabe, he was never informed of our 1/2 day reservation made the day before on Fishingbooker.com. My husband & 2 boys bought sun shirts & were so excited for the highlight of our trip to Corpus. Warning: Do NOT wait at the pick up location assuming your guide will show. After 1/2 an hour, sent email (the only way to contact), he responded that he was never told about our reservation. When my husband asked about the deposit, no response. The people at the pick up location called to the restaurant next door where he was eating and they said he had already finished & left. Who’s at fault??? No one made it right. ***Make sure you contact the captain & hopefully he won’t be dining on your deposit money during his free time. Extremely disappointed and TERRIBLE (non)experience.

Hello Carol, thank you for sharing. We’re terribly sorry that your family had to go through such an experience. Not showing up for a confirmed booking is unacceptable, and we completely understand your disappointment. As you might know, all our bookings trigger an automated series of notifications that are sent to you and your captain. We notify each captain of a new booking via text, email and app notification. At this time, we also share your full contact details with the captain so that you can touch base. We’re truly sorry that this didn’t happen in time. Rest assured that we take no-shows very seriously and have started an internal process with the captain in question. As for your deposit, please note that we never keep it if you don’t actually go fishing. This amount has been fully refunded to you by our Customer Support several days ago. We know that this can’t make things entirely right, but we’ve also applied credit to your account as a small gesture of apology. If you do decide to book with us again in the future, please feel free to reach out. We’d be more than happy to help you book a memorable experience. Thank you, and all the best from FishingBooker.

I had to cancel my charter due to the fact my daughter got COVID, and instead of an easy system to cancel, like every other excursion I had planned for the week, Fishing Booker required me to submit on the site, wait 15 days and then gave me 24 hours to submit proof, which with a self test I had none. After 4 different agents gave me excuses, even when the captain agreed and understood, they still kept my deposit over a technicality. I recommend you use this service only to find charters. Book direct with the Captain but do not give them your money. Update- I appreciate the apology and the refund from Fishing booker. Unfortunately, it came after I posted about my experience on several websites. So let’s just be clear about that. You declined before I went public. I hope they mean what they say here about looking at their cancellation policies. It would make all the time I wasted worth it to help the next customer.

Hello Sharon, thank you for sharing your experience. Once again, we’re very sorry that you didn’t get to go fishing. First of all, we’d like to wish your daughter a speedy recovery – we hope she’s on the mend. As for your booking, we’re happy to say that your deposit has been completely refunded – please check your email from a couple of weeks ago for a confirmation. We know that dealing with bureaucracy is the last thing you want to do when your daughter is ill and when your plans have fallen through. While we’d like to resolve such issues on the spot, we need to ask for some sort of proof either from yourself or from your captain to know exactly how to proceed. This helps act on our Extenuating Circumstances policy and refund your deposit even when you’re violating your captain’s cancellation policy. As soon as we received your reply, we gladly moved forward with your refund. Again, we understand how this isn’t ideal when you’ve got bigger things to worry about. Thank you for your patience and for your feedback – this helps us work towards simplifying our procedures and making it easier to help you more efficiently. All the best from FishingBooker.

Bad low quality website. Trying to get money of you. Can't communicate normally with people it's block all messages.
Response from FishingBookerJul 4, 2022
Hi Ramzan, thanks for your review. We're sorry you had a negative experience. The reason why your messages were blocked from reaching your chosen captain is because you attempted to contact them directly, rather than through our messaging service. To make sure both our captains and customers are safe, we don't allow personal contact details to be exchanged before a trip has been booked. Instead, you can use our Instant Messaging service to quickly and easily contact the captain of your choice. We hope this helps shine a light on the issue. All the best from FishingBooker.
