Horrible. Not a shop. A kid working out of his parents garage. Charged me 275$ to tell me what I already knew. Quoted me three times normal cost for the job. I would not recommend him ever

Hi Doug, I want to correct several important points in this review because it does not accurately represent how the vehicle was originally presented or the diagnostic work that was performed. When you originally contacted Family Hybrid about the Prius, your description was that it “might be EGR” and that you did not know exactly what was causing the problem. The vehicle was not presented to me with a confirmed head-gasket diagnosis. Determining what was actually happening was the reason for the diagnostic service. You authorized the $275 diagnostic evaluation before the work was performed. That charge was for diagnostic testing and professional evaluation — not for repairing the vehicle and not for guaranteeing that the eventual repair would fall within a particular price range. Family Hybrid does not repair vehicles based on guesses, assumptions, or “maybes.” We diagnose first, document the results, and then recommend repairs based on evidence. Your diagnostic included dry compression testing on all four cylinders, wet compression testing, a chemical combustion-gas test, cylinder borescope inspection, scan/code review, and road testing. The testing confirmed combustion gases entering the cooling system. Your measured dry compression results were approximately 90 / 90 / 100 / 100 psi, with wet-test results of approximately 85–90 / 90–95 / 100 / 110–115 psi. These findings were documented and provided to you along with the other diagnostic results. After the testing was completed, I prepared detailed repair options based on a scope of work I was willing to professionally stand behind. You were under no obligation to approve those repairs. You chose instead to pursue a substantially lower-cost repair option elsewhere, which was entirely your decision and one I respected. No unauthorized repair work was performed. When you specifically asked whether you owed anything additional, I confirmed in writing that you did not. You were provided with a paid receipt and complete diagnostic/test results so that another repair facility could use the information rather than starting from zero. I also spent additional time after the paid diagnostic preparing written findings, repair options, technical documentation, and handoff materials at no additional charge. After you declined the repair, I continued safeguarding the vehicle, provided flexible pickup arrangements, and followed up regarding retrieval without charging anything additional for that continued handling. I also want to address the characterization of me as a “kid working out of his parents’ garage.” I am an experienced automotive technician and the owner of Family Hybrid Auto Repair LLC. I stand behind the diagnostic work performed, the documentation provided, and the way your vehicle was handled throughout this process. You are absolutely entitled to disagree with my repair estimate and choose another repair facility. What I cannot agree with is the suggestion that you paid $275 simply to be told something you already knew. Your original communication, the authorized diagnostic work, the measured test results, and the documentation you received show otherwise. I genuinely hope the repair works out well for you. — Michael Family Hybrid Auto Repair LLC
